I stepped on a staple!!  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life 5 years ago

I can't believe it happened but I am glad it was me and not my son!

A piece of art work that was brought home from school by my son ended up on the floor and I did not notice it! I guess the teacher must have displayed it on a bulletin board before sending it home and it had a staple in it which went right into my heal and was very painful...Thankfully I am O.K tetanis shot wise....

So, has anything like this ever happened to you?
Perhaps you stepped on a nail or some old metal of some kind...Where were you when it happened and what were you doing when the item went in...did it involve a trip to the hospital?

Please share!

Thanks in advance!

It happened to me once, I just place peroxide gel on it and I was fine after few days.
No, I did not go to hospital. I would go only if I stepped on dirty items.

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

I did not go into hospital for this little staple either!
I just put extra strength polysporin and a large bandaid on it! Had it been a long nail or something of that nature I would have....

So where were you and what were you doing when you stepped on the staple?

myLot reputation of 97/100. polachicago (8508)   ranked 105 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

it was in my house, and it was clean safty pin....

Oh a safety pin...still that must have hurt!! I know the staple did!

When I was a kid, maybe 6 or 7, somehow I had a toothpick on the floor in my room. Somehow I stepped on that toothpick and it went into the middle of my foot and broke off! Somehow I managed to walk downstairs and get my dad and ask him to pull it out! We put peroxide and Iodine on it and I couldn't walk right on my foot for a few days... but it worked out fine.

I'm a clumsy person, but that was probably one of the worst things I stepped on.

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Wow! that would be bad...one giant sliver and I can imagine very painful!!
I am glad that it worked out O.K for you in the end! :)

Thanks so much for sharing your story here!

I know, talk about a really big splinter!

I have had hospital trips before too, but busting your chin open on the side of a filing cabinet just isn't as cool of a story ha ha.

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Here's my hospital trip...

I fell off a set of monkey bars in grade school and nearly bit my tongue right off!! I actually had to have it sewn back on!!!

My son fell in his bedroom and split his ear wide open on his bed and needed stitches also...the silly things we do! LOL Definately not funny at the time!

myLot reputation of 97/100. raychill (3485)   ranked 681 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

yeah. I have had other hospital trips too but they're certainly not always funny at the time. We do do crazy things in life that end us there, but that's life right... you can't live in a bubble!

Don't worry it happens there was a knife hidden in a chair at my house and I stepped on it and it went through my foot.... not fun

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Oh my tazboydan!!!!
A knife in a chair?
Who would do that!?!
So sorry to hear this...That must have been really bad! Did you need stitches or anything?

You know the so-called tackless carpeting that manufacturer's installed years ago? (I'm not sure if they still call it that). They really use a strip of tacks so why it was called that I have no idea.

Well, I was having this installed in my house and they couldn't finish all in one day, so, they left the three stairs to the family room with just the strip of tacks. Dummy me without thinking, came up from the basement and went running up the stairs and got totally, completely, stuck. All my toes on my right food were anchored to the strip of tacks. I eventually was able to unlatch myself and every toe underneath had a hole in it....ew!

It's kind of funny now when I think of it. I sat on top of the kitchen counter with my foot in the kitchen sink full of water, washing them all off, haha.

I luckily just had a Tetenus shot a couple years prior (when I stepped on a rusty nail twice, duh), lol! Gee, sounds like I was pretty accident prone back then, haha!

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Oh my I just about threw up to think of all of your toes stuck to the step!!1 Must have been very painful and was there alot of blood?

Where were you and what were you doing when you stepped on the nail(s)two years prior?

I had my tetenus shot about six years ago and they last for ten years so I am O.K that way but that is another story for another time!

~Heavens~

myLot reputation of 98/100. Kashmeresmycat (2385)   ranked 78 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

HaHa, you're so funny!

Yes, there was alot of blood...but I had some Neosporin and a bunch of bandages, haha, that's all I needed and limped around for a few days.

With the two nail incidents, one was in a piece of wood, like a 2X4 and I stepped on it in the backyard. It went right through my Tennis shoe into the middle of my foot....not deep deep, just enough to need a Tetenus shot though.

The other time there was a nail in the grass and I didn't know of course, and stepped on it. It went into my heal, and that was about six months after the first incident, haha.

I read once that if you are punctured by a rusty nail, and you can put peroxide on it immediately, it can bubble the Tetenus right out....interesting huh?

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Wow! I have never heard that about peroxide but I always have a bottle on hand and do use it when I have cuts etc.

Thanks so much for the response Kashmeresmycat! :)

Ouch.

I've stepped on a lot. Thumbtack, nail, staple, rake and a lot more. It hurts. The worst was the thumbtack. The end was bent and in order to get it out, it had to be pulled straight out, bent end and all. That hurts a lot.

I know when I stepped on the thumbtack, I was putting up Christmas decorations. We had thumbtacked one of our wreaths to the wall to get it off the ground and the tack came out of the wall and my foot found it.

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Ouch!!!

That would have definitely torn the skin when that thumbtack came out!! Was there a lot of blood? It is surprising the amount of blood out of the smallest hole!

You sound like me....If it can be done then I do it to myself!! LOL

Thanks so much for your response!!

Hi Heavens, I am so glad it wasn't your son to step on that..but sorry that you did! I know that is a big ouchy! Yes, I have stepped on tacks before and that was a big ouch too! I stepped on a nail once when my dad was building our new house and I had to go to the ER and have a tetanus shot. I would rather be hurt myself than have my child hurt... I know you feel the same way. Love ya heavens!

Oh as a kid I remember quite well at least twice going to get a tetanis shot from stepping on a rusty nail and once as an adult. You know what? As an adult it involved my brother-in-law leaving nails when he was doing construction here, makes me wonder if he was also involved in the ones when I was a kid..??

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

Wow! You really have a thing with nails...Ouch and three tetenus shots in your life time!! I only remember one tetenus shot about six years ago but that is a story for another time!

Thanks so much for sharing with me my friend! :)

Just a good example of why certain things like dance lessons can help you. Up until I started dancing I was somewhat clumsy..

ouch! you just reminded me of some of my careless moments especially when i was still studying and doing my thesis. it envolved so much stapling paper reports together. i stapled on my fingers many times and it was truly painful! no need for hospital visits. i just pour much alcohol and i was okey. but i admit, i cried everytime it happened to me. it was really annoyingly painful!

glad to know you're just okey.

Yikes! That must have been painful. Back when I used to sew and cross stitch for fun, I remember accidentally dropping one of my needles on the floor and stepping on it. It hurt really bad for a bit, but it wasn't really serious or anything. I just kept the area clean and it was ok. It certainly wasn't pleasant, though!

A while back I was cleaning my sons room. I had on a pair of flip flops at the time. Later on I noticed when I walked I felt pain in the heel of my foot. I didn't really think to much about it because my heel's tend to crack open in the winter. Well after several hours of this pain I finally sit down and take my shoe off to see what is going on. I look on my foot and see nothing so I go barefooted for a while and the pain was gone. Later I put my shoe on and pain again. Look on the bottom of my flip flop and there was a thumbtack in it. LOL DUH! I felt pretty stupid!!!!

myLot reputation of 99/100. heavenschild (1715)   ranked 15 out of 32,950 in life  5 years ago

That would make you feel pretty foolish but no worries...how would you know!?!
I didn't even notice the piece of artwork on the floor in my livingroom!! It really caught me off guard!! It is still a bit tender tonight but not too bad :) I'm just glad it was me and not my son....

Thanks so much for sharing your story here today...It did give me a little chuckle! :)
