I have a friend whose whole family is allergic (my friend is the only one who isn't allergic) and they got a Cornish Rex cat that none in her family has a problem with. I don't know much about them other than they supposedly are good for people with allergies.

One kind of hypoallergenic cat is the Siberian cat. Below is a good site that explains all about the cat. Don't think I've ever seen one before but it's a pretty cat, I think.

Allergies to cats are not because of the hair on the cat. It's due to cat dander and particles in their saliva (spit) that cause people to be allergic. Getting a hairless cat or a cat with tons of fur won't make a difference.
Get your DH on allergy meds. My husband is allergic to, but we've got a lot of cats and he just takes allergy meds once a day. I can tell when he runs out or forgets to take them. He looks like someone used him for a punching bag and he goes through a box of Kleenex an hour.
