I gave two boxes for the Christmas Child donation from the Samatians Purse and I am giving money to my local Pregnancy Resource Center for more pregnancy test kits, more money to buy better equipment, bottles, blankets, car seats, counciling, etc.

These are wonderful causes. I'm very familiar with Samaritan's Purse, and it's such a great thing that they do.

I can't say I do anything particular for the season - I like to think that I give what I can all through the year but as money is short my donations tend to be in the form of manual labor help if it's giving elderly help cleaning or giving rides to doctors or just setting and letting someone talk - listening.

I am sending some clothes and household items to salvation army. They will pick it up on December 12. I am giving good and clean items. I could easy sell it, but I can feel much better helping someone to stay warm.

My daughters high school are devoting two days towards working for charity. I think this is an excellent idea. I asked her this morning if they would like parents to contribute in some way, as I fully support schools & individuals helping charities. She said that they were asking for contributions of small gifts, mainly toys for children, or a small gift suitable for the elderly. They intend making other presents, wrapping them all, & distributing them. Once source of distribution is to the Kmart Christmas tree, where presents are left, & the other will be the students giving presents to the elderly in nursing homes. Some elderly have no one to receive presents from. I think this idea is excellent & I told her that I am buying gifts for her school to achieve this worthy cause.

I serve the needy all year long. I love the feeling that I get from volunteer service. It always makes my problems seem small compared to those of the families who I serve.

I receive joy in whatever method I use to share with others in need. There's a wonderful organization called Samaritan's Purse, that has a project called 'Operation Christmas Child' each year. They send 'special shoe boxes' filled with an assortment of gifts, to underpriviledged children around the world. Individuals can pack their own personal shoe box, and pick the age and gender of the child. We've done this a couple of times in the past, and this year, my sixteen year old daughter purchased items for some of these boxes, for a school fund raiser. These kids have 'never' received a gift of any kind before this. My daughter's school will have their annual food drive, and I'll contribute to that, as I do each year. I believe that anyone who's having a problem financially during the holiday season deserves assistance, and especially those with children.

I teach nursing at the local college. Our group of nursing students has adopted a family that was identified as needing help secondary to a recent loss of home due to fire. We are all chipping in for food, clothing, toys, and other things. We are bringing in items as well as getting a WalMart gift card so that the family can get whatever they wish too!
