Donor Designation

Do you have it marked on your drivers license or ID that you wish to be an organ donor in the event of your passing away? I have always had the donor designation even though I am not very healthy. But I figure if someone can use an organ of mine to live at least another day then I should give that person the option to use my organs to live a bit longer. There are other ways to help another person live longer without being a donor. Blood drives are one way. Also donoating Plasma which you get paid for helps with the medical field in making new drugs etc with the donated plasma. My wife and I both donated plasma for about 15 years straight. So do you give blood? Do you donate Plasma? Are you an organ donor?

I have never given organ donor much thought and that's a lot to do with the fact that I can not give blood. They won't take mine because of asthma, and thirod desease.

My wife has a thyroid problem and takes meds for it and she can
be a bone marrow donor. So I don't know why this is the case with
you. I also have bronchial asthma and need a Drs statement in
order to donate blood or plasma.

Yeah that figures I've always said we're half a@@ backwards here in Canada when health care has a part. My daughter has very rare blood type apparently there are only so many, and I don't remember the numbers. She is listed in case they ever need her. That was done when she was about 17 and she's middle 30's now and never have got a call. Who knows?????

I dont have a driving licence. Here in Australia you can do that put in your driving licence or submit a form but your relatives can still say no. I am not 100% ok with that if there could be a condition that I only want someone specific so it does not conflict with my religion that sure why not. I dont give blood donation as I freak out when I see a needle big time. If someone asked me to help them yes I would do it. My friends baby girl has some major health issues the last time she was in hospital my freind called to tell me that her splin was in very bad shape I had told her that I would get tested but she said that the doctors didnt say it was going to come to that and it didnt. And I said before that I was going to go throu the same thing that your wife is doing if I was not pregnant at the time.

There are some religions where being a donor is not right.
I don't know what religions but I've heard that somewhere.
have it written in a living will and the relatives have to
respect the wills statements then.

I am not too sure how that goes but I think the relatives have the final word on it even with the will that is not read untill some days later by than it is too late. My church is not against donating organs or blood or anything I personaly belive that my organs should be berried the orthodox way with orthodox prist.

I'm a firm believer in organ donation and always have been. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't, I mean it's not like we're going to need any of our body parts once we're gone, is it? I was unable to donate years ago because I was anemic but that WAS a long time ago so maybe I'll see if I'd be acceptable now. You and your wife have done so much to raise awareness of what one person can do to save a life. Thanks for your inspiration!

You bet I'm an organ donor!! Yes I have it on my drivers license too because it would be a wonderful thing to help another live through my organs after I'm gone. I don't see any reason in keeping them and letting them be buried with me when all they will do is rot right along with me when they could do a lot of good for someone else. I can't give blood though because of the medications that I take.

Thats how I feel. I am not using the body anymore so let
someone that can use parts of it use it for their lives.

I am not allowed to donate due to my bronchial asthma unless I get a Doctors statement saying it's okay. They're afraid of an attack as I have the needle jammed into my veins. HAHAHA! But I did it with plasma donationg for yeras on end. I also am a designated donor on my DL.
