Is there no one out there who does or has an interest in woodcarving of any kind?

I do woodworking, I have s scrollsaw and all of the fun tools, but I am afraid I do not do woodcarving, though I did try it about 20+ years ago.

Woodworking counts! I used to do that when I had a shop. I used to build houses and then went into boat repair. I built cupboards and storage compartments in the boats. Replaced the soles all kinds of things. Mostly though I did exterior repair and hand painted the exterior hull and decks. Not many people do that by hand. They spray paint, but sailboats don't fit into spray booths very well.

I did not see your comment until now sorry! Start with a bar of soap and an exacto knife. This is how I teach teenagers. You do not spend a lot of money at first and you do not hurt yourself either. Shalom

Does having a scroll saw count? I like to work with wood and whittle when I get a chance. Glad to see some people are still interested in this sort of thing: http://www.woodcraft.com/books/1358/default.aspx

When I used to have my own shop, I had all kinds of large machines and a scroll saw was one of them. I had a lazer too. I had to sell all that good stuff though, so now I am down to just hand tools. Yeah, a scroll saw counts so does whittling. Any time you create something from something else its just cool! I always try to use wood that has already been used for something else. Since I do relief carving, there is a wealth of possibilities. I use old cutting boards, wooden steak plates, plaques with silly pictures or sayings that can be sanded off, all kinds of things. Sometimes a piece of driftwood will have a beginning of a scene already started in it and you just have to bring it out or finish it. See you got me started now I have to stop myself. See you in the funny papers!!
