I do woodworking, I have s scrollsaw and all of the fun tools, but I am afraid I do not do woodcarving, though I did try it about 20+ years ago.

Woodworking counts! I used to do that when I had a shop. I used to build houses and then went into boat repair. I built cupboards and storage compartments in the boats. Replaced the soles all kinds of things. Mostly though I did exterior repair and hand painted the exterior hull and decks. Not many people do that by hand. They spray paint, but sailboats don't fit into spray booths very well.

When I used to have my own shop, I had all kinds of large machines and a scroll saw was one of them. I had a lazer too. I had to sell all that good stuff though, so now I am down to just hand tools. Yeah, a scroll saw counts so does whittling. Any time you create something from something else its just cool!
I always try to use wood that has already been used for something else. Since I do relief carving, there is a wealth of possibilities. I use old cutting boards, wooden steak plates, plaques with silly pictures or sayings that can be sanded off, all kinds of things. Sometimes a piece of driftwood will have a beginning of a scene already started in it and you just have to bring it out or finish it.
See you got me started now I have to stop myself. See you in the funny papers!!
