These little guys wake me up all night long! They are nocturnal and move around at night and sleep all day, and at night, I hear them wandering around and hear their shells hit the glass of the aquarium as they go for food and water and hear them digging and even a few times heard them roll off the top of their hut where they sometimes climb nad they roll off and land on other shells I have in there. Who'd a thunk little hermits (and one is really little -dime size!) crabies could be so noisy!

They sound like a cute thing to have, I might check it out , my nephew is looking for some sort of pet to have and that sounds better than a fish tank I think.. thanks for the idea...

I have three crabs and they are so unique in their own way. Yes, they are easy to keep and fun to share with kids. When I got mine I went online and searched for info on how to take care of them. I bought a ten gallon aquarium and the sand I get from Home depot (play sand that goes in sandboxes) and some eco-earth moss from the pet store and combined it for the bottom. I provide both fresh and saltwater for them. The temp. and humidity in tank needs to stay around the 70's for temp and 80's for humidity. I give the all kinds of fruits and veggies as well as other foods. I have branches and little huts for them to hide in. I frequent a forum especially for them called landhermitcrabs. Usually when they dig down it is because they are stressed from the pet store or they are fixing to molt. Gosh I could write a book about them. I can sit and watch them at night and it amazes me what they will try and do at times. Happy Crabby!

Well, for awhile they didn't dig in at all! Thoughts something was wrong or just just loved being in my home!LOL! But lately, both changed into much larger shells (I didn't think they were big enough for the bigger shells, but I guess they know best!) Now, one digs under all the time. I hear them at night, but other than that...he/she is down deep! But I hear them clacking on the glass sides of the bowl couple times a night!

Oh, those are so cute! I've seen them in stores, but never knew anyone who actually has them. Are they high maintenance? Do they need a special temperature or any kind of precautions that you have to take to keep them healthy? It would be absolutely amazing in the quiet of the night to hear them playing.

They are so low maintenace I feel guilty about not doing more for them! They like humidity (not dry) warm, not cold and I just cover them with a towel at night.I spray them with distilled water for the moisture nad humidity and fresh water etc. So easy. It's just taht they aren't to "playable" as in pick them up and play with them. But amazing to just watch and see what they do! they also change shells.
