Do you reuse wrapping papers? |
Christmas is just about 3 weeks away... how time flies!
You know, when we get gifts from friends, they normally come wrapped. Well, every gift should be wrapped where possible to add that personal touch and "mystery".:P
The question is: Do you reuse those wrapping papers?
For me, I would if they look nice, are in good condition and do not have any store brand stamped on them. What about you?
Do you reuse wrapping papers or dump them straight? Or...? Do share your thoughts!=)

1. razcal2267 (9492) | 3 years ago | I do not reuse wrapping paper. That is an idea though. I am sure that I can take all the good parts of the paper and put them together to wrap some gifts. A wrapping paper quilt if you will. Thanks for the idea.

2. Suze05 (365) | 3 years ago | I try to be good about reusing the wrapping paper, for conservation's sake, and saving money and all that. I'll try to take it off carefully so its not ripped up and ruined, and I'll collect it all and fold it or roll it up and put it away. Then the holiday comes and I can't remember where I put it, or it got ruined throughout the year, or I find some pretty paper I really like and decide I want to use that instead. I am an evil paper waster.. but I do have the good grace to feel bad about it. and I at least try to save it, so I think I should get points for that..lol

vaibhavsawke (637) | 3 years ago | you are right all of us should do something for the mother nature. my mother utilizes the food waste by putting it compost pit rather than throwing it away. we have a small compost pit in our garden and we get free manure supply throughout the year. for more information subscribe to: http://www.kitchengardeners.org/

5. lorelai (826) | 3 years ago | I reuse wrapping papaer but only if it not clear that it was used before. My mother would reuse it 5 time if it was possible but I don't like that. Specially because wrapping paper is very cheap so its not something that would make you bankrupt.

lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Definitely! It wouldn't do if the recipient can tell it is reused.:P

chargoans (741) | 3 years ago | In my family I have to be careful which paper I use for their gifts, since some are like me and recycle. I try not to wrap a gift in used paper that was given to me by the recipient of this year's gift. For example, my aunt wraps all of her gifts in angel papers, so I know to try to use the older angel papers (on the bottom of the pile) or I use another pattern and just include an angel ornament. It helps me spend more money on gifts by recycling the paper! In fact, I still have baby Christmas wrap from when my 15 yearold daughter was little. I roll it onto a wrap roll and tie ribbons around it each year to keep the paper free from fold marks.

lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Just a thought: You can perhaps label the wrapping papers so that you won't forget who gave which lol.:P

6. dragontester (488) | 3 years ago | I love to wrap gifts in the wrapping paper. It is worth any gift to watch the face of the person receiving it beam up with surprise. And when I get such a gift, I try to open it without ripping apart the paper and keep it safely. I reuse the same paper at times, but if it was given by someone really close, I don't feel like giving away the wrapping paper:)

7. megumiart (3640) | 3 years ago | My parents always used to just throw away wrapping paper from presents when i was litle. i can't help but to think it's a waste, but i wouldn't want to use crinkled wrapping paper. I recycle gift bags, though.

akuseru (1877) | 3 years ago | Gift bags are so easy to reuse, and most people don't even notice if they happen to get the bag they gave you last year with their present this year. The only time I don't reuse them is if they're ripped badly or otherwise damaged. I also salvage whatever bows I can--no sense in buying more next year when the ones we have this year are perfectly good!
| |
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Gift bags as in the bag you used to contain the wrapped presents? Well, those are certainly reusable whatever store they might be from. If they look good and presentable, all the more better!:)

8. akuseru (1877) | 3 years ago | You know, it really depends. I'm fussy about how I unwrap things, so usually I would be able to use the wrapping paper to rewrap something. However, I've also got a rather eccentric aunt, and she tends to swoop in on all the discarded papers before I get a chance to! When I do get to save a few pieces, I tend to use them for my scrapbooks instead of wrapping something else with them. Wrapping papers make great backgrounds for the holiday pages, and I do occasionally give small scrapbooks as presents.
There is a local group for trading or selling on Yahoo! Groups, and I ask to swap wrapping paper if I've been using the same pattern too much. That way, I can keep the gifts I give from appearing too monotonous. ^_^

lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Swapping wrapping paper? Oh mine... isn't it too much an inconvenience for such a "small" thing?
| |
akuseru (1877) | 3 years ago | Not when you're dumb like me and buy huge rolls of the stuff because it's on sale and you like the pattern... then you have to give presents with the same wrapping paper on them year after year after year!
The good thing is, there's apparently quite a few people in my area who had the same idea, so it all worked out in the end. LOL
| |
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | Hehe... we don't even see them in big rolls here (not usually). Normally we buy it piece by piece.:P

chargoans (741) | 3 years ago | I never thought to use the prettier papers for scrapbook pages! I am only beginning to scrapbook, though much of mine is done digitally, but I own a scanner and could simply scan the papers! What a great idea, thanks for responding to this discussion and giving me one more way to recycle.:-)
| |
lordwarwizard (10401) | 3 years ago | You may have a scanner. But you would need a very nice color laser printer too.:P
| |
akuseru (1877) | 3 years ago | Well, the color laser printer would definitely be a nice thing to have, but I don't think it would actually be necessary since chargoans is planning to scan them for use in digital scrapbooks, not traditional scrapbooks. :P

10. book1962 (14554) | 3 years ago | Hi I did that for many years, re using papers. In our family we open all presents very carefully and so you only have to cut away small tears or sealing tape, then iron it and its fit for next use. I dont get as many gifts any more and I dont re use the paper now.

littlefranciscan (4680) | 3 years ago | Regina, I am like you in that. I use to save my wrapping paper and keep a bag of it set aside..But it got to be that I had more wrapping paper then gifts that I actually give out..So I trashed it and resolved to buy fresh..
| |
book1962 (14554) | 3 years ago | For a while I re used for family as they wouldnt notice as they are used to it. But of course for colleagues, boss and some special people it has to be fresh wrapping paper.
