Do you know about craft glues and other glues?  email this discussion to a friend?

I do lots of crafts that involve gluing things together. Esp. recycled materials. But most stuff just doesn't stick for very long. Like glue dots haven't worked very well for me from Oriental Trading Company. I try to buy craft glue that says it sticks lots of different materials, but often they require lots of glue and it dries clear, but you can still see it or it really looks raunchy like with felt, changes the felt over the glue. Maybe I should give up crafts with glue or just stick to family gifts with glue. But I was just wondering if someone knows a glue that holds well, uses very little so that it truly can be unseen, etc. So please tell me what glues you use and the value of using each one as well as the limits of the glue you use. Thank you very much for your assistance. I really appreciate it. Trying to do crafts that don't work out or fall apart can be very frustating.

I do so many crafts, but I have a nice small adhesive stash... double-sided carpet tape, PVA white glue, E-6000 'everything' adhesive, and rubber cement.
The tape is 2" wide, and I cut it to the size I need. I bought non-stick scissors to cut it with, which cost a bit, but I don't have to clean them constantly so its really worth it.
The PVA glue is for general purpose... paper to paper, fabric to paper, etc. The E-6000 is great for sticking metal or plastic items, like my charms, to anything! Just let it dry thoroughly... it might take days, but its worth the wait. This is the best for jewelry.
The rubber cement is a miracle. Apply it to both surfaces, let it dry, then CAREFULLY put them together... once they're stuck, they're stuck! Apply it to only one side when gluing paper to paper, stick them together wet and weight them down flat..
The only glues sticks I've been happy with in making my papercrafts are 3M and Avery. And I only rarely use hot glue for craft projects... I find it unreliable if the articles are heavy or will be outside.
I'm a true believer in wiring, sewing and stapling... these are the most reliable fastenings. But it depends on the project... whatcha makin'???????

I use the hot glue gun on everything. You can use as little or as much as you like and it sticks and stays. Nothing falls apart if you have used hot glue and it all goes together rapidly. It makes craft projects a cinch!

It seems like I have to use a lot of it and the glue trails off and ends up places I don't want it. Any advice?

My glue gun has a variety of nozzles to use. You might want to consider a gun with a smaller nozzle to get a smaller bead or invest in one that has interchangeable nozzles. I got my gun in a craft supply store.

I use a popsicle stick to "cut" the stand of glue and to have the trailing part of the glue go onto the stick rather than on my project. When dry the glue pops right off the stick so that you use the same one over and over.

Hope this helps!

I've never seen a multiple nosel one! A popcycle stick would be great! Something I can recycle from my summer popcycle eating. I'll have to see if I can find a multiple nosle one. Yes, I think your advice was wonderful! Thank you very much for coming back and responding again.

I only use my glue gun. I brought Modge Podge recently to work on some magnets, but have not had the time to start my project. I heard great things about the E6000 you might want to try it.

Do you know where to get E6000? Like what stores, esp. chain ones in my area that might carry it. Take care

Aileen's Tacky Glue works the best. It's a clear-drying white glue, it comes in a gold bottle with a white nozzle. Also, rubber cement works very well, but it dries extremely fast, so you have to be very precise.

When we had a Joann's Craftstore here, I did buy some Aileens and it worked for most crafts, but I haven't seen it since they left. I'll have to check around and see if I see any anywhere. Yes, rubber cement, you have to be really good and doesn't that have a really powerful smell (as I recall)? Thank you very much for your response.

I just got some at Wal-Mart.

I seldom go to Walmart, long lines and their computers seem to malfunction when I walk up to them, but I'll check, thank you.
