The maker of delicious cakes for years. It is sad that this has to happen now, especially just before the Christmas period.
What I feel for the most is the 11 month old baby who suffered the diarrhea and fever bouts! Imagine that fragile body going through the pains and fighting against such a bacteria!
According to the print media, two of the worker who handled the cakes were initially suspected to be carriers of the bacteria.
But later reports point to the eggs used in the cream to be the case.
I wonder which is which.

that's really quite a terrible case.
i think this is the first time such a large commercial food provider has been singled out and a health warning issued!
very bad publicity. not sure when the company will recover from this. recently they found out that more than 6 of the employees had selmonala found on them!
makes me wonder how clean the other food producing factories are. and i'm sure we are ingesting loads of bacteria daily, just that it has not gotten to levels that make people sick yet.

I guess it is the same in all industry, especially with regards to food. As long as no one got sick, the standard is usually acceptable.
As for the bad publicity that Prima Deli has received, they are handling it much better than I could have imagined.
They were quick to compensate those affected. They were also diligent enough to follow up with those affected.
The steps they took to really sterilized their factories also restored some confidence in their products to some extend.
It goes to show how serious they are when they claim that they have a stringent quality control over their food.
I guess they would have to work doubly hard to restore the former confidence in their products this year.
Anyways, the MOH has cleared them and they are going to be re-opening their outlets this year!

Does the truth matters? Not really. Those who were poisoned were poisoned and they who were not will hopefully stay healthy.
So far, it seems to me that the prima deli people are quite professional. They apologized, set up hot line and seem genuine in their remorse. It is to their credit that they did not whine about their losses which are substantial.
The reputation of course now very the affected. When they reopen, either business will be worse or better. Worse if the stigma remains. Better if people believe in those checking officers i.e. the factories are now cleaner than before - than other brands even. Throw a 5 cent coin. Head or tail?

I totally agree with you on the professionalism that Prima Deli is showing thus far.
In fact, they were quick to react to the situation to prove that they are serious in their quality control. I cannot imagine having to close down a production line, a factory and island wide outlets for so long. The cost is going to be really damaging!
Anyways, the MOH has already given the clean bill of health to them.
Prima Deli is slated to re-open in 2008!
