ok i spent a happy half hour today talking with a funde work mate of mine about different religions and festivals. She told me that she realy couldnt get in to the spirit of halloween because she didnt like celebrating non-christian festivals. Now, im not a kill joy, but.... Well the many mid winter festivals of the pre christian pagan religions all seem to congrugate around the last third of december, but the birth of Christ? Surely a mistake here. One of the Shepherds is suposed to have brought a lamb as a present for Jesus, possibly a spring lamb? suggesting March or April as a possible birth date. However, Christinanity has past form for adapting pre-existing festivals in countries that it has invaded. It is even possible to suggest such festivals are stolen. Isnt there something about thouw shall not..... in christianity just a thought

I'm with you there. So many of the so-called Christian traditions are actually holdover and adaptations of pagan ones. And yes, I have often read that the actual birth of Christ is in the spring months, like March or April. It's thought though that the reason for Dec. 25th to be near close to the pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice usually around Dec 21st..Also, Easter is also filled with old pagan beliefs..usually celebrated near the Spring solstice and the common symbols for the celebration of Ostara is the rabbit and colored eggs. Oh, and as a by the way trivia...next to St. Patrick, the next famous saintin Ireland is Brigit...whose has been given the many characteristics of the Celtic goddess, Brigid..(pronouced Breed in Celtic)

Hi ESKARENA1! I have learned a long time ago that Christianity have adopted pagan festivals and somehow there are also some learned people who have argued that Jesus was not born on December 25 as we Catholics are led to believe for so many years ago. Well, I am not sure why they don't correct the date when Jesus was born if the proof or evidence is really credible. I do know also for a fact that there are a lot of men in dressed in white who are behaving so unChristian like. I am no expert on the Christian doctrines but what I know that it is a sin for us to steal. I guess it boils down to one thing, whatever religion we have, the important thing is we try to do good unto others. Just a thought. Take care and have a nice day. :)

To begin with there is nothing in the bible about the shepards bring a lamb to the baby Jesus. It only says that they went to see the babe. The early church used the winter celebrations to try to get the pagans into the church. So Your rihght about the early church adapting pre-existing festivals. Since the shepards were in the fields when the angles came to them it was probably spring. No one thought about keeping track of Jesus's birth until about the 3ed or 4th century.

I'm sorry that some people take Halloween religiously, when actually is a fun holiday, and for any beliefs. It is for fun to have kids dress for trick-or-treat, thing they won't do any other time of the year. I'm not religious, and some people being fanatic in their religion and deny themseves some fun and relaxation, it is the wrong thing to do.
