What about others in other countries besides Canada..USA what do you think?
This is by a daughter of a murdered couple in TORONTO who had a Bible
and Bookstore on Bloor Street.
* When I had to testify at the murder
trial of my parents a week ago, I was asked to raise my right hand. The
bailiff started out,
"Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth,
and nothing but the truth ? **
I stood there and waited but she said
nothing more.
She said, "Do you?" I was so stunned I blurted out,
"What
happened to "so help me God?" She came back with "Do you?" I replied
yes, but I was perplexed.
Then the judge said, "You can say that if you
want to." I stopped, raised my right hand and finished with "so help me
God!" *
* I told my son and daughter that when it came time for them to
testify, they should do the same.
It's no wonder we have many problems
in this country. If I'd had my wits about me, I'd have told them that
taking God out of the courtroom is only going to result in more
criminals and murderers like him being in there. I don't know what can
done about it, but it' time we stepped up and did something.
This is from another that read this.CBS this morning had a poll on this question. They had the highes number of
responses that they have ever had for one of their polls and the
percentage was the same as this: 86% to keep the words; 14% against.
That is a pretty commanding public response. I was asked to send this on
if I agreed delete if I didn't. Now it is your turn. It is said that 85%
of CANADIANS believe in God. Therefore, have a very hard time
understanding why there such a mess about having "In God We Trust" on
our money and having "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't
we just tell the 14% to sit down and be quiet! **
** If you agree,
please pass it on to anyone that may want to see it...**

I'm not sure what they do in court here in the UK but I think people are given the choice as to whether they want to swear (as in the God version) or affirm (as in the version without God). That seems the sensible way to do it in my opinion.
As for the bit about the 14% being told to sit down and be quiet well why should they? So because they don't claim to believe in God they don't have rights? Is it better to make them swear to a God they don't believe in? What would be the point in that? That makes no sense to me at all.

And they say change is great....I don't think so when it comes to taking God out of our lives and this is what it is coming to. What difference does it make what name each religion gives Him, it's still the same higher being we all are talking about.
Things are getting a little out of hand here in USA when it comes to the subject of God and the use of the name.

*laughs* Anyone who wants can tell me to shut down and be quiet any time they like, but that doesn't mean I'm going to do it. :P
I'm not sure what the numbers are for the US, but no matter how few there are, those of us who do not believe in a monotheistic male supreme being are citizens just like anyone else, and will not sit down and shut up. If someone asks to me to swear by a God I do not believe in, be it in court or anywhere else... then yes, I will be offended, and I will argue.

It is a good thing you posted this and that even though the baliff omits the word, "So help me God," you should say it. By taking God out of swearing in the courtroom, the court gives the idea that God is now out of Canada. They forget that a majority of people here believe in God (unless they decide to import people fron non=God fearing countries and discourage God fearing people from having children and I believe they are trying that() Even criminals and evil people think twice about committing their despicable acts when they realize God is behind the law.
