What is or was your grandmother best cold remedy?  

I sure do remember. My grandmother's cure all for a cold was Jewish penicillin. I still today make myself some even when I feel like I am on my death bed because the canned chicken soup just isn't the same, even if the studies now show it can be more helpful.

I don't think my grandmother had one, but if she did, I'd be seeking it out right about now. I am sick and feel cruddy! I don't like milk, or else I'd try yours. :)

I remember getting something called 'rock and rye' I think it was - very high in alcohol..especially for a child. It made me feel warm and tingly. Getting a cold was fun back then.

MIne cut up onions and put some sugar inti just enough to make the juice come out gave us the juice for coughs and it worked also she used a mustard plaster on our chest or back that got real warm as I remember and think it work i cant remeber that lol

I remember my grandmother's cold remedy quite well, as I followed suit and gave it to my kids when they had a cold. One remedy was to drink warmed up lemonade and go to bed (it sweats the cold out of you). Another one was a mixture of honey, lemon, glycerine and hot water to mix - good for sore throats and coughs. I still use both these remedies today and they work!

Grandma's remedy was a large shot of Jack Daniel's whiskey, a spoonful of honey and followed by a small glass of Coke Cola. She said the whiskey would kill all of the germs and warm the tummy. I miss that lady a lot but I remember the things she taught me.

Actually this would be related to my great-grandmother as she was a nurse, but was into the old time remedies. One "remedy" was for a person to take a hot of a bath as possible, make a mad dash to bed and be covered up with a LOT of blankets, to sweat out whatever impurities were in the system and also to break a fever. But, she also would have a piping hot cup of tea, with lemon, honey and the real "cure" a few shots of brandy. Mmm..think it was the brandy that worked best...LOL

Good old chicken soup. I'll have to try your recipe next time we get the sickos around here!

I used to be sick before. My colds were truly bad. My grandma used to tell me that I should drink enough water as well as orange juice. She would also recommend to eat citrus fruits.

oh well, might as well start all over again...

My granny usually makes home-made remedies for us when we get sick
like she would pick guava leaves from our backyard and mix it with hot water and other "special" ingredients...
she also carries this bottle of her self-made "natural healing wonder" along with her everywhere...
although i wouldn't want to know what's in it... but it sure does work!
