i decided to start a new holliday tradition with her. she is 4 and all she's been talking about is what she will get for christmas. i want to teach her it's not all about getting presents. we went to the store and bought some presents and made up 50 little gift bags to go hand out at the nursing home. she was so excited. while making up the presents she was talking about how she was like sparky, which is the fire station's mascot who does the toy mountian and hands out gift to less preveledge kids. it was just so sweet how she understood the importance of giving and how excited she was to be doing this. i'm so proud of her

What a great idea. I think visiting people at the nursing home is a great experience and means so much to people who may not have anyone come because they don't have anyone or they are too far. There faces just light up! Wal Mart has a tree for adopting a senior we did this year. My daughter and I picked a name and a gift and most just wanted some warm jammies or socks and necessities.

Aye, that is pretty good. Heartwarming too. Very good story Pop. I agree plenty of people (not just kids) fail to grasp the meaning of the season. And then there are others that have no iota of compassion or sharing in season or out. Some people can be very selfish and wrapped in themselves. Too "me me me"-ish in my opinion. I'm glad your daughter learned something else and got to do something about giving and sharing.

I love your idea, you are such a good mom to teach your child in this way. There are going to be so many happy people getting your gift bags. You also have a very sweet daughter, she looks so proud and happy with all the gift bags that you both made. Great idea.

Hi there, Pop! You have given your daughter one of the greatest gifts this year! You have taught her the true meaning of Christmas, that it is better to give than to receive. This is why she was so excited!
Your daughter is still very young, so she won't really have anything to give other than perhaps old toys she doesn't play with to a young child who needs something to play with. You put forth the effort to make sure you daughter has something to remember of this Christmas!
Another thing you have done is taught your daughter a beautiful truth while she is young. She will remember this forever. What a precious experience you have given her! I wish there were more people who thought as you do. Your post has been very encouraging, and I commend you on what a great thing you have done here. Keep up the good work!
