would you participate in a running race? |
|
Like a marathon, half-marathon, or 10km run? Recently, I participated in a 10km run. It was quite interesting to run with others and experience the whole race day atmosphere. this run was part of a series that others took part in, including the full marathon of 42.1km. Do you think it's madness to train one's body to run a full marathon? It really takes endurance and perserverence. I don't think I could do it at this point. The 10km was already quite a challenge for me. but I must say regular running increases one's metabolism rate, and I feel much less guilty about eating 'unhealthy' food, knowing that I'll burn it up faster! if you enjoy running in races, what are some tips on preparation that you'd like to share?

2. oneandonemakesix (24203) | 8 months ago | There is no way I could even begin to participate in a marathon, I have really bad feet and one of them requires recconstructive surgery And probably down the road my other foot will require the same surgery. So my activities are limited in what I can and can not do, and if I do a lot of walking it really takes its toll on my feet. Mooch

3. youless (9126) | 8 months ago | I am not interested in running as I am bad at it. I can't run fast for the short distance. However, I have no strength to run for a long distance, either. So I won't participate to the running race.

5. lexus54 (1892) | 8 months ago | I'm too old to run in a marathon. I am not fit and do not have the endurance for such a distance event. The furthest I've run was about 10Km, and that was already very taxing for me. It's no joke running 42Km or even 21Km unless one is very fit and has adequately trained himself for it. I recently caught up with a 48-year old car dealer I know, and he told me that he just participated in his 6th marathon. I was really surprised to learn that, and I actually told him that I'd take my hat off to him for such an achievement at the age that he is in.

lexus54 (1892) | 8 months ago | Wow, that's great! If they are physically up to it and relish the challenge, why not. But they must ensure they have a clean bill of health first before subjecting their bodies to such grueling distances. I admire them nevertheless.

6. jam14zen (147) | 8 months ago | No, never. I dislike running and think all the joggers look silly in their outfits. Plus, if you want to run...it seems like running in an less restricted concrete area would be more pleasant than get herded into a 50,000 person marathon with cops and ambulances and fans everywhere. I dislike the whole idea and can't believe they televise these events. Good luck on your hobby and stay hydrated.

8. ahgong (1570) | 8 months ago | I used to join in a lot of runs when I was still schooling. Now that I am older, I cannot run as much anymore without experiencing any pains after that. I missed those days where I get to run and run. But running at my own pace rather than in a competitive environment. I can run the distances, but I can never make the timing at so many competitive participants are achieving. 10 km? It would probably take me 4 hours or more to complete! I guess if one is preparing for a race, plenty of fluids and rest is key to successfully completing the race.
