My 14 yr old Daughter started her First Job today!

Is this the job she applied for 4 weeks ago? If so I am really glad to hear it all worked out for her. Please let her know I wish her good luck.

I think it is so wonderful that your daughter actually WANTS to get a job! I think working in a pet store would be a lot of fun! It will teach your daughter responsibility in ways words can't.

Working in a pet shop sounds like a great thing for your daughter to do. I think it will make her an even more caring person and she will learn a great deal about animals. It will also be valuable for her to work with a small team of people. It is wonderful that the store is happy to teach her pet care and lets her do interesting things like wash puppies. In a few years your daughter will take the valuable experience she has gained in this job to further study or a future career. It is right that you are proud of her.

Hopefully she will continue liking it. It sounds like she found a job she will enjoy. I am happy for her.

Always great to hear of a young teen wanting a job. It shows you've done a great job raising her. I cleaned the wild cats cages when I worked in the circus as a teen. Now that's a mess to clean. HAHAHA!!

That's wonderful. My two oldest boys both started working at the age of 14 too. It helps them learn the value of money really quickly.

I think it is great that you were so supportive of her getting a job. Some parents think that 14 is too young, but I think it shows maturity.

My 14 year old is dying to get a job, but she wants US to get it for her. Frankly, here you must be 16 to work but as long as they have a social insurance number they can be hired. Asking their age is not permitted, apparently. I would think it would be question on the application.

My daughter babysits and she has a paper route (which she hates). She wants a real job but I don't think she would stick it out. She has so many complaints that I think she would find a lot to dislike about working. I know it will be necessary down the road and wish she could now so she could pay for her own clothes because God knows I cannot afford it, but I don't think I should be helping her find a job short of pointing out ads in the newspaper and maybe driving her (but staying outside in the car). But she wants us to GET the job for her. I can't even GET a job for myself! LOL!

Good for your daughter. My girl would gag at such a job. You should be very proud.
