Just like yourself I craved a laptop for quite some time, and finally I bought one about 5 years ago. Sadly, it is now becoming rather dated so I am giving serious consideration to purchasing a newer model.
This is the major problem were a laptop is concerned, it is not only more expensive than a desktop computer but is far more difficult to upgrade.
If my desktop fell well behind the times I could replace the processor with a faster one (providing the motherboard would support it) or purchase a new sound card, graphics card etcetera. However, with a laptop it is not quite so easy, so in many cases it is difficult to avoid it becoming outmoded.
