I Really "Had Myself a Merry LITTLE Christmas"!

I've been feeling so depressed lately partly because I wasn't able to do hardly any shopping for Christmas due to severe financial hardship at this time. I've been awaiting my disability claim for over 2 years now and while we were able to hang on fairly well for a time we've now scraped the bottom of the barrel clean and it's a real b*tch if you know what I mean. My husband and I were beating ourselves up for weeks about not being able to get things for our grandkids that we wanted to and feeling even worse because our daughter and son-in-law, who have had enough struggles of their own due to health concerns, had helped US out in recent weeks and months so that meant they couldn't afford much for Christmas either! Basically, it's been a tough few months with no end in sight at this time. However, I'm so blessed by having a wonderful immediate as well as extended family and I also married into one and so did my daughter, thank God! Everyone pulled together and helped everyone else out; my son-in-law's brother and his wife, who aren't well-off themselves came through with a small loan so the kids got some presents - not many, but they were happy - and we were all able to enjoy an excellent dinner together! We're still poor for now, but we're no further in debt for Christmas shopping and we were all together and once again we've seen that family really is everything! In the past my husband and I have sometimes been the ones helping others in our large extended family, but it feels different when we're the ones needing help. I'm so thankful for them all and I love them deeply!
So, you can have a merry LITTLE Christmas, you don't have to spend a fortune and do something elaborate. Family, friends and children is all you really need!
Belated Merry Christmas and have yourself a Happy little New Year to all!

I am glad you still had a nice Christmas. I did not have a whole lot of money to spend on my kids this year, but I have a great family who always gives the kids great presents. It was nice that all of my brothers were here this year. We are usually missing one of them since they rotate years. It was a pretty nice Christmas.

Yes, you can have a Merry Little Christmas. We did. Money was a little tight so we have a very small gift exchange but everyone liked what they got.In fact I got two I owe you this gift and it is on the way and I was just as happy with them than I would have been with the actual things. I just mentioned that a gift card to AMC theaters would be a good gift and my sister wrapped popcorn and M&M's and a card that said the AMC card is coming soon.
One year we didn't exchange gifts at all but it was a great Christmas. It fell on a Saturday night and I got to see one of my favorite films, Camelot. And on Christmas afternoon, the NFL played some games. It was great.

A movie theater gift card is a fantastic gift! Ane the fact that it was a card that said it was coming is fine, after all you weren't going to take off that minute on Christmas day and go to the movies, right? It sure is possible to have a Merry Little Christmas, and I don't use "Little" in a bad way at all! Big isn't always better!

Christmas and happiness are states of mind. Neither cost money. Love is the major currency of both. You are indeed very wealthy Annie! I am so glad you had such a nice Christmas. I had to work and had the flu. I had some lovely gifts, but the love with which they were given is what matters most. Have a splendid New Year!

Thats great that you really see the positive side of things. Most people dont realize how lucky they are when they have a family around for the holidays.

I really try to find the silver lining. When I sometimes find myself feeling sorry for myself I try to remember how lucky I am in so many ways, things that have nothing to do with money or possessions. I could be a multi-millionaire but if I didn't have my family and friends I'd be poor, in the ways that really matter. Happy New Year!
