Can faith help you overcome extreme pain?

I'm not talking about a toothache, although that's bad enough. I'm talking about really strong pain, one that can make people lose their minds. How much pain can a human being take? Is there any limit? Can faith be stronger than agony or torture?
It is one of the most burning questions that have ever crossed my mind. There were so many atrocities along the history of humanity. So many innocent people being tortured to death in uncountable ways. And it still goes on. How many of those people had the strength to remain themselves until the end, without losing their sanity and the integrity of their soul?

My friend if you are challenging faith then mind you , you are wrong , i'll give you the simplest example and that is of Kung-Fu , have you seen them what all they do , their body derives the strength from belief , so faith is something that controles your whole body , take meditation for an instant , thats the power of faith !
