During olden days in India, people say that sleeping after the sunrise is not good for health. They said that getting up before the sunrise would give energy and a healthy living. They also say that this is the tradition and this should not be changed. But now their living style has changed. People work in call-centers in which the shift timings would be in night. They start sleeping in the early morning and get up by one or two in the afternoon. For twenty to twenty two years, we have been sleeping in the night and suddenly we change this routine thing and start sleeping in the day time. Is there any harm in doing so and if so please let me know the effects of this change?

Hello, men82in! early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.but the present day life style prevents one going to bed early rising early which means you are devoid of getting good energy.the rising sun shine has some soothing effect on the body and because of late rising we are not getting that effect ie,the good energy from the sun for which we suffer from various diseases and we are spending money for our treatment.day sleeping is noway beneficial to health.but we have to attend to our night duty who are working members.there is no other way but to sleep in day time.anyway you have to give your body and mind rest for a minimum period of 7/8 hours.but those who are not attending night duties they should go to bed early and rise early.specially the students must follow this rule.early morning study is good for after rest of the mind during night you will feel good enough to fill the mind with some new lessons which is not to be forgotten.the day sleeping makes man lazy and sick often as medical science says.so it is better to go to bed early and rise early and be happy in life.thank you.wish you a Happy and prosperous NEW YEAR 2008.

I don't think there is a physical effect , but you do have to adjust to working at night and sleeping during the day. My mom worked from 11pm-7am Sunday night-Thursday night for years. She enjoyed her job and she didn't have ant health problems because of her work. She was a morning person but adjusted to become a night person.Me, I work in the late morning to early evening but I stay up until 3am-4am. But I am a night person. So the best thing to do is try a night shift and see how you feel, if you don't like it, go back to working in the day.

I don't think there could be any great harm done by doing this as there are so many people who work different shifts and live different lifestyles that require them to adjust their sleep schedule from the norm. Also, I've heard for many years we all have our own body clocks which means while some of us are totally morning people there are others among us - including yours truly - who are definitely night-owls in the truest sense. I don't know that there's any real connection between those factors and health and longevity.
