ntldr missing  | |  I installed windows xp and then added windows 2000. Now when i boot up, there is a msg when i load windows xp. ntldr missing. But when i boot windows 2000, its working fine. How to boot into windows xp without reinstalling both the operating systems?

I bought a used HDD for my laptop. When I turned it on it showed a message "NTLDR missing". Press CTL + ALT + DEL to restart.
What happens is that it really missing this file. To fix restart with the boot disk. After the windows setup loads all the files you get and option to install or repair. Choose repair press R
Choose 1 c:windows
type cd .. "Make sure there is a space beteen cd .."Type drive letter with:
Type cd i386
Type copy ntldr c:
Type copy ntdetect.com c:
Type Bootcfg/add
Type Exit
This should fix the missing file of NTLDR. Hope this helps

| | 2.  Taskr36 (4588) | 2 years ago | The problem is that you are supposed to load older versions of Windows first. Your Windows 2000 installation overwrote the bootloader for Windows XP. I think that if you use your Windows XP CD to do a repair installation it will reinstall the bootloader so you can dual boot both OSes. | |
