Need help with flaxseed! |
| |
| I am forever reading about the health benefits of flaxseed. Does anyone on here use flaxseed? Where does one buy flaxseed? What does it taste like? How do you use it in cooking or whatever? Thanks for all your help! | | | | | |

| | My hubby is into Flaxseed. He bakes muffins and throws the seed in the muffins or in a casserole he is making, to be honest, I have never tasted them or noticed a difference. | | | | | | |

| | Do you know where he gets them? What do they look like? I live in a very small town...with only a super WalMart and a grocery store. | | | |

| | You can get the whole ones in the vitamin section at Super Wal Mart, and the ground ones in the baking supply aisle. Along with other speciality flours. | | | |

| | I don't have a lot of knowledge about what it does, but it must be good for you because I bought some about a year ago!! I don't remember where I bought it, but I saw it in a package at CVS Pharmacy just yesterday. I remember seeing it because I thought it was odd to see it at the CVS!! It's in the vitamin/herb dept. I think I must have gotten mine at the supermarket or Wal Mart. | | | | | | |

| | He gets it at Stop and Shop, in the aisle where the flour and baking stuff is. I would think it is in the same place at WM. | | | | | | |

| | I have bought it, unground, in the health food store, but I have also found it recently in Wal Mart, alongside the corn meal, etc. already ground. When I grind my own I use a little electric coffee grinder. I put it on cereal, in baked goods, and I have seen recipes that feature it. It has a slightly nutty taste. I will sprinkle it in salads, as well. If you have trouble with constipation, instead of grinding it, you take a spoonful of seed with a full glass of water. The coating on it makes kind of a mucillage and it is very good at softening stools without the side effects of stimulants. I have been buying the already ground, because then I get around to using it. A health food purist would tell you to only grind it as you use it. Problem was, I never used it, because I did not have time. | | | | | | |

| | I put ground flaxseed in my son's pancakes. He loves them that way. It gives them a slightly nutty flavor. I have used them in muffins and bread before. It really does not taste like much. Most grocery store carry it now. It is with the flour and things at my store. | | | | | | |

| | My wife puts it in just about everything she bakes. I like the fact that she tells me that she is trying to take care of both of us with it. It just gives me a case of "the warm fuzzies" to know it. | | | | | | |

| | Flax seeds have healthy oils and fatty acids in them and they help protect lubricate the insides of our stomach lining and digestive systems. They are very good for people who experience constipation and they help in easing and making frequent bowel movements. The healthy fatty acids also help reduce cholesterol levels and increase metabolism. I usually buy Flex seed oil capsules from my pharmacy and take them once a day. Also i buy whole flex seeds from my grocery store (in the baking aisle) and use them on top of my breakfast cereal, in stir fries, in baked stuff. Basically you can throw them in anything whenever you want nutty flavor. | | | | | | |
