Hello people..I have been in Heaven and hell over the last few weeks..so much to tell..but..I was in the hospital and well I almost died..from a couple of things..the other will be on another thread but i found while i was in the hospital that I have severe sleep Aphnea..I now have to use this pain in the a$$ BIPap machine..its this mask thing that covers my nose..and gives me a rush of O2..and shoves out carbon dioxide..though the one in the hospital covered my mouth and nose..and was suck a bigger pain in the bum..but i never relized that adults could have it too..i know my son was born with it..and that was Hell itself..and now im wondering if he got it from me..if its hereditary..soo now im wondering..anyone else have SA?if so do u have a machine as well or do u just deal with it?

Hi,
I have sleep apnea too. I was diagnosed with it about 4 years ago. I have a Cpap machine also and it also has oxygen going thru it. My oxygen level gets real low when I sleep. I use the Breeze nasal mask and have used that one for the past 3 1/2 years and I really like it.
I don't know if sleep apnea is hereditary or not. My son is 25 years old and doesn't have it and doesn't even snore. Both his dad and I snore (or I should say I did) and yet he doesn't. That's so weird.
The CPAP can be a pain in the behind, but I sleep much better with it and have a hard time sleeping without it now.
Have a great day!
Char

I starting falling a sleep during the day a couple of years ago always tired. It took a year to get things straight I went from a cpap that didnt seem to make a difference to a bipap which has changed my life. I am 43 and I now know I have had severe apnea most of my life. Using my machine i now wake refreshed and can go all day with no fatigue and i am 100 pounds over weight that happened in one year.
Amazingly after just 3 weeks i am losing weight, my vision is clearer and food also tastes better. Emotionally i feel like i never have or can remember. I also use the nasal pillows they work great for me cant do the mask eithier. Also to mouth breather i was to but i now breathe through my nose with no problem.
Anyone out there who is giving up dont stay in touch with your doctor i was stupid and waited 8 months to go back and suffered more for nothing an increase in the pressure solved my problem and after all these years I am alive again and feel great. I thought being tired was normal that everyone felt this way. To everyone stay with it this is a serious disorder and finding the right course for you will change your life.
Thanks
Ray

I think it is hereditary, even if some forms of it might be as bad or show up until later on. My mother has it and of 9 children 3 have sleep apnea me being one of them. I don't have severe sleep apnea though but my brother does. His daughter also has sleep apnea. The sleep apnea makes me feel tired alot and makes me feel sleepy throughout the day and is way worse when I am sick especially when I have nasal congestion. I have been told to lose weight and that will help it some. My brother had his adenoids and tonsils tooken out to help him breath better didn't really work at all though he still sounds like a grizzly bear roaring when he is sleeping and we can hear him gasping for air. He is very obese and is top heavy which is a major factor in his sleep apnea. Atleast that is what we are told. I was told it causes some of my other symptoms I have like brain fuzziness, depression, mood swings and other things. It would totally drive me crazy to have to wear a mask on my face because I really don't like things in my face while trying to sleep but I guess if it was needed so that I could live I would have to deal with it.

I do have it, although I do not need oxygen with it. I have the machine, but do not use it, I tried but I would take it off it my sleep. When I would go into a deep sleep, I would rip it off. I could not figure out why it was off in the morning, but had someone watch me, that was up during the night. It sounds like you really need it and had better use it. Hope things go well with you. Sorry you are having such a rough time.

Feeling sorry for you. I know sleep apnea can be quite serious from what happened to Divine. I believe his extreme weight, over 300 lbs
had a lot to do with what happened to him. I strongly suggest if you're overweight to lose weight in a program recommended by your dr
In the meantime I hope you can find a machine. OTOH I believe a machine is a temporary solution. Losing weight is more important.

Yes, I am a 43 year old male who has been diagnosed with sleep apnea several years back as a result of me snoring at night. I had to purchase a BiPAP machine with help from insurance. The BiPAP is different because when you inhale, the unit blows air into mask, when you exhale, the air blowing in stops, and then repeats with each inhale, exhale. I use a contour gel full face mask, usually I do not know it is on. The only problem I had was my mouth would get dry so I had to have a humidifier attachment.
