Name a tree...  

Athena is a lovely name for a tree. We call one of our potted plants Athena. We have had this plant for about 30 years and as we cannot take our Athena back and forth between our winter and summer homes, as it is illegal to cross the state line with a potted plant, we have to take cuttings and root them in water while traveling. We haven't killed it yet although once it had a pretty close call.

Obviously we cannot do this with a tree, but there is a little clump of trees in our neighborhood that we call "Henley's Dragon" because when our neighbor Henley was about 90 years old he would point at that clump of trees and ask the same question, "Don't you think that looks like a dragon?" I would always say, "Yes, Henley, if there ever was a dragon that is it!" Now whenever my husband and I have time to look up as we pass that area we always say to each other, "There is Henley's Dragon!" He has been gone between 10 and 20 years now at least. Still, wherever Henley is now, I'm sure that whenever we say that, he is smiling.

What a sweet and gentle discussion! Since I don't own my home, I am very fortunate to have the tree of my dreams right outside of my window. I have loved magnolia trees all of my life. The one that I have attached to this is not mine because I am not at home right now, but even if I were it is January and she wouldn't be in bloom anyway! And yes, my name for her is not very original, but I do call her "Maggie". All of my plants have names, as well as my crystals. Blessed Be~Donna

Hi aseretdd...I appreciate your efforts to promote and name trees......Especially because in my place all the vegeattion and trees are being cut up inorder to set up concrete jungles......I have not named any trees in my back yard,in fact I have never given it much thought.....But here sometimes environmentalists often come together and plant sapplings and name them after some famous people inorder to promote planting and awareness of trees.....

I don't have a backyard but we still plant trees on the roadside - and it is encouraged in our country.

I love trees too. In fact, I love all kinds of plans. Even weeds have their place in my heart. But I don´t name the trees although I plant trees for loved ones. So it´s like "this is Edna´s tree" or "this is Tomas´tree".
I like most of the names trees have. And there are some flower whose names I don´t like but I have found in Internet that most plants also have names called by different people of the world. I pick the one I love best.

i think there are specfic things that we cherish and if we appreciate them they should have a special name to show our appreciatin and love for that particular thing.. wether it be a pet a tree or a favorite stuffed animal... people that love there stufed toys and baby dolls give them names and they arent living, breasthing etc etc... people and pets have names ... and even some people name there cars, why not give a name to something more desrving.. afterall trees give us life if it werent for trees we wouldnt have cleann air to breathe... i have never personally named a tree or even thought of naming one until now..

I never think of it. Well, as you know I am not really good at this. To plant a tree is quite a hassle for me *smiles* Anyway, it is a good idea to name a tree. Same like what we do to our cats and dogs. Given a specific name to each tree definitely a good idea. Thumbs up!

no i haven't thought of that... but that's a great idea... although i've tried tree planting in our organization before and it's such a wonderful feeling trying to help one another and preserving mother nature... i have always been a nature lover and i have this one specific tree that i love the most... (it's the same one i planted) coz when you enter our neighborhood, you're being greeted by their beauty... that's the indian tree... i'm not sure if you're familiar with it but i don't have a photo to share with you...
