Corrections Officer

I am no longer going to be able to go to school for now because I have lost my pell grants. I have a 2yr old and one on the way and I just cannot afford it. I decided to try to go straight in the field (degree was criminal justice) and applied to become a corrections officer. Has anyone ever worked in this field or have any advice? I just don't know what else to do except throw myself into the field and finish my degree while working because a lot of times the state helps pay for your degree that way.

I have not worked in this field before. I don't know that I would want to. I can't imagine wanting to work as a corrections officer while you are pregnant. I personally would wait until after I had the baby to get into it. After you have the baby I think going to work and getting your degree part time sounds like a good idea.

Silly. I am not going to be in the field while I am pregnant but the application process takes a while so I went ahead and contacted the state recruiter. I only have a couple of months left during pregnancy though. I have always wanted to be in some form of law enforcement and this may be the key to at least get started.

Oh, good. I was hoping you were going to wait. :-) How long is the application process?

It takes a while because they do a background check and stuff. I still have my current job though so I am not in a desperate hurry or anything. I am just tired of being shoved into more loans when I get start in the field without the degree. At this rate I will be paying student loans back until I am 50.
