We may be Trialling Recycling Food Scraps! |
| |
| Recently I saw on TV that three councils in Adelaide are going to trial recycling food waste. The councils will give out these special little plastic bins & biodegradable bags, & we put the food scraps in this, & when full, dump it in the main bin. I am very much hoping that my council is one of the three trialing this. I have a lot of foodscraps, especially vegetables, as we have nearly all home cooked food. | | | | | |

| | Our dogs wouldn't eat vege peelings, they only like real cooked veges. So having somewhere to recycling the peelings is a great idea. | | | |

| | Hi jennybianca! That is a brilliant idea! Recycling food scraps is a wonderfu thing because there is too much waste on food nowadays although on some parts of the world there are many people who go hungry especially in third world countries. Here in our country, we do our own recycling of our own food scraps. Some of which are given to people who raise pigs and some are for fertilizers. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day! | | | | | | |

| | I used to keep all my food scraps for the compost heap down the backyard. It became a bit of nuisance as no one would empty the scrap containor. This method should work better, as we get a biodegradable bag. | | | |

| | We recycle all food scraps but we live in the country. Plant type foods such as old lettuce and coffee grounds and egg shells go in the can for the compost pile. Everything else and I mean everything else goes to the chickens. I never knew until moving here that chickens will eat just about anything and it helps to save on chicken feed. | | | | | | |

| | I just take my vegetable scraps and lawn waste and put them in a compost heap. I think that it would begin to stink if you had to hold it or garbage pick up. Homemade food makes great compost for your home grown food. | | | | | | |

| | We used to do that, but the compost bin is right down the back yard, & people weren't emptying the inside collectionm that regularly. I really should have tried to stick with it. | | | |

| | I am sorry but I think this is a ridiculous idea. But a typical bureaucratic way to solve a problem. Food scraps should be composted where they are used not loaded into a big truck to be carted off to a landfill. You don't have to live in the country to compost. I do it in a cat litter bin that my neighbor threw into the recycling. It's just more plastic, more gas being burned and the gov't.(us) has to hire (and pay) more people to do the work. (which is their objective to begin with) We need to start doing more for ourselves and stop turning to the gov't to solve our problems! A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have. | | | | | | |

| | Apparently this collection of compost from council areas is to make compost, not to throw in a landfill. | | | |

| | Hats off to Adelaide. This is terrific news. I know that in my region, we have already began recycling food scraps. This food waste is a good source for composting material. By recycling our foodscraps, this helps keep the landfills less full. Quite the incentive to be giving away the biodegradable compost bags. I hope that you and your friends pursue recycling. More people should in MHO. | | | | | | |
