http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20080125/sc_livescience/lonelinessbreedsbeliefinsupernatural wow so I guess I am in this category, the lonely person. I like going on mylot and meet friends here. Rather than meeting so called friends in real life, and I only have a few real life friends and one best friend lives far away from me. I do spend a lot of time online, I join a lot of moneymaking sites and maintain blogs and websites. So all this cuts me off from social connection? never think of that. What about you? do you think there is a bit of truth in this when it comes to you?

Mmmm....I don't know if that is necessarily true. While yes, I'm a loner type, I've never been "lonely" and as for having beliefs in the metaphysical, supernatural and the like, I've always had those beliefs even as a kid.....so did my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to a certain extent Also all my life I've had an attachment to my pets...And like I said, even though I'm a loner type, I do "socialize" a bit with people so I'm not completely isolated. And by being "connected" with different websites, especially like this one I don't think that would make one cut off from social connection...sometimes think that we who are at such places (websites) might be MORE connected somehow, don't you think??

true. our online friends are humans :):) so we do connect and socialize when we are on here. even our sites and blogs, we communicate with readers there too with our writing. I don't feel lonely when I am online at all. there are so many things we can read, write, talk to online

I don't think it is true. I am very social and I do believe in supernatural. I think we have to look at the study with blinking eye...I don't agree with this conclusion...

I find that interesting. I do not consider myself a lonely person. I don't feel lonely and rarely have a moment to myself, but I believe int he supernatural.

that's the problem, I don't feel lonely either, even when I spend my time alone a lot

Yep, I tend to agree with you somewhat. I'm a lot like you. Though I've been a loner most of my life. I don't function well around people. It seems that I'm never truly me when "socializing" face to face. Apparently, when I write, I'm more me. So I have cut myself off from the real world just a tad bit. And I do believe in the supernatural, but then again, I always have.

sounds like we are alike. I choose to be alone browsing or doing my crafts rather than partying. Of course if I like the people I will force myself to go, but only very few people I will stay with them all night, the rest I will find excuse to go home early although I like them too.

"Dubble bubble toil and trouble" - sorry just quoting Shakespeare.:) I do not think there is any truth in this. And I am mocking the writer's idea that lonely people believe in the supernatural and I suppose she means witches, warlocks, and things that go bump in the night. I think that there is something in each of us who is searching for something better than us, God. When someone has friends — I gather they mean superficial friends — they abandon this desire and fill it up with frivalous playmates. So does that mean that people who have a lot of friends off line are in effect without God? Whomever wrote this believes in man and not God, and therefore her words are not fact. I have friends both online and in real life, and I believe in God. So am I lonely? I think not.

you have a point. since I was a child I am always interested with supernatural things, having friends or not.
