I am going to make a confession here, once upon a time I was very rude to any sales people that would call me, two excuses for this, one I just hate unsolicited calls plus the fact being an ex telephone operator and saw many friends lose their jobs to other countries when Telstra sent their jobs off shore...until I joined Mylot, I can honestly say that the beautiful hard working people I have met here in Mylot many have been from call centres, I was made to see that these lovely people are humans too and deserve respect as they are only trying to earn a living. Today thanks to Mylot I am a much better person. I actually admire those call centre people...

Your comment is an open eye for those people who'se being so rude and arrogant to the agents/telemarketers, they are also human that needs respect and like what you've said, they are also doing their job. Thanks for the nice post!

since caller ID and answering machines it is almost impossible for a cold call to get through. I would love to have a sit down job; but I would prefer a help desk type rather than just have random numbers dialed and then try to sell something.

Call centers are the in thing career in ou rcountry these days. I would say they are a grwoing industry here in the Philippines. Many graduates from various courses and even those that are undergads are entertained and some do get hired for as long as they can speak english and at least they can imitate American accent then they are hired. They are attractive to the younger generation because the pay is very attractive compared to the regular day jobsin the market. There is not much skills to learn than to learn how to speak english and some communiocation skills. The only downturn for it is that they work when everybody is asleep meaning they work at nights when their customers/clients abroad are awake. Its a big adjustment especially if you are not a night person.

Yup I agree with you, and I believe it's a big help in our country as well, many people got employed.

i experienced working in a call center before and i just loved it. the pay was very excellent and the best part it, i get to talk to different people in different walks of life. not once did i get pissed with an irrate caller (coz it was inbound) whenever i get one, i just imagine i was talking to barney. and i would just smile in my station. i enjoyed it so much that i began to take advantage of the pay. i took overtime/s every chance i get. sometimes i do 1 hour preshift ot and 4 hours postship. i haven't had enough sleep at all. the ending is -- me quitting because of health problems. i think anybody can survive in a call center job. one just have to have to right work attitude. i had the right mindset towards work, maybe my style wasn't just that good.

Yeah, you're right, they are giving a good compensation, but in this kind of work, just like what you've said, you have to take good care of your self.

I have tried working for a call center once and it was pretty traumatic for me :D. I only lasted for about a month before I got out of there.

Being a call center agent is a really tough job (at least for me). I really couldn't handle the stress. Not so much the physical but the emotional stress. I can't handle being shouted and complained at by people I don't even know. That was the worst part of the job for me. Yes, the pay is pretty good but it still wouldn't compensate for all you'll go through in the job. Having unusual working hours is also a pain.

I guess I'm not just cut out for that kind of environment.

I am working in an online tutorial service. It's a Korean call center as they say. Well, I find it very rewarding, fulfilling and quite an easy job. For one, I like teaching very much that's why I find it satisfying and cool. By the way, the coming of several call centers in our country asserts that Filipinos can offer world-class service to anyone in the world.

I say it is one of the toughest jobs in the world, perhaps. it is not esy to sit all day, all 8 hours of it and talk to irate clients, manage their expectations, hav ethem scold you for things the company has not done for them, even curse you for billings you did not even know existed!!!

I had the worst days of my life being an agent 4 years back. It wasnt easy but my friends at work kept me going, we device our own ways of making work less stressful.

People think that call center people get paid high, but really it wasnt even enough to compensate the lost hours you could have used for other things because you need to extend your sleep.. it is not easy to sleep on daytime! it is soo hurtful to the eye.

Yup it's true its really hard to sleep on daytime as well & job is very stressful but if u have friends and companion around you, atleast it will lessen the stress and pains. Thanks for the reply!

In the Philippines, working in a call center is really difficult because we have to adapt to time zones of other countries especially US. We have to make day to night and night to day. Personally, I missed half of my social life and I hardly have time for myself. Dealing with politics in a call center is difficult as well.
