Took my sister to Hibachi Japanese Steak House for her birthday

My sister decided she would like to have japanese cooking for her birthday dinner so we went to a Japanese steak house where they do the cooking right in front of you. One day I am going to learn which sushi and sashimi is which and go to a sushi bar, but not today. We went early enough that we got the early bird prices on things. The chef did well in his presentation, and the food was excellent. Started with a salad, the veggies and fried rice freshly cooked and then the meats. I liked when the chef was preparing the grill, my nephew got a shock when the chef took some oil and make a smiley face, then lit some other oil on the side and slid the flame over to the face. A whoosh of flames and heat. This chef was good but wasn't too talkative, I remember last time I went the one chef had a running speel going as he prepped things and cooked. Has anyone else been to a Japanese restaurant? What was your experience like? Also I heard that the colors of the hat they wear is like the colors of the belts of martial arts. Does anyone know how they are ranked???

i've never been to something like that. in japan i did go to a little whole in the wall place where they prepared the food in front of you, but nothing fancy like they have here. japanese food is always good, and i like most of it considering i don't eat much seafood only shrimp. probably one day i'll go to one of those places. maybe on a date with my husband since he's japanese too.

restaurant - Cooking on flat top...
Hibachi is very good. Your sister is lucky. I like vegan sushi and I like the way they cook on flat top... As far as hats and belts, I have no clue...

It sounds like a good meal. I have only been to a Japanese restaurant once, so I am afraid I would not be too helpful. The chefs during our dinner didn't talk much either, or if at all that I recall.
