9-11 Suspects and The US Government..Hmmmm?

United States

I was mylotting this AM and on the home page I ran across an article that the headline struck a bad chord with me, well that and the contents of the article itself. The headline was: "US MAY ASK FOR THE DEATH PENALTY FOR 9-11 SUSPECTS." Here's the article: http://www.mylot.com/w/newsarticle/638897.aspx Ok maybe I'm reading too much into it but we MAY ask for the death penalty, not we ARE GOING TO ASK FOR IT AND PROSECUTE IT...shouldn't it say that? After all, 2 iconic buildings are gone, many lives were taken, it left a hole in the heart of America when we sat here watching people jumping out of the towers and the towers crumbling like a Lego building, holes in supposed secure government buildings and planes crashing in the middle of nowhere that were packed full of people. The article says the Pentagon is working diligently on case preparation? It's been 6 years, we know who and how it happened- what is the problem? How hard is it? Oh I know, welcome to the Bush Administration!! They are still at Guantanano Bay too because Georgie decided to set up a military tribunal..why not just pick the worst prison in America, throw them in there, and let them for their last days suffer at the hands of America's worst criminals- there's justice. Would that be torture- oh poor things. I'm not a fan of torture anywhere but these guys deserve every bit of what they get in my opinion. They should have actually by now, have been sat in the electric chair or before a firing squad, I think they still do that in Utah if you choose and I choose it for them. I don't usually do these types of articles but I had to discuss this one because the headline seems ridiculous- there is no other option for these men other than death by the US in my opinion... What do you guys think of this article, did I read too much into the headline? What are your views on these suspects- To kill them or not to kill them... I think that with the passage of time, 9-11 got lost somewhere along the line and it should never be lost...the only thing that needs to take a hike is Georgie JR. Thankfully, we can say BUH-BYE to him real soon.. Thanks for stopping by and reading! All opinions are appreciated as long as the debate if there is one is friendly please! :)

These guys could never get a fair trial, its all senseless revenge just like the iraq invasion, its just another inhumane move by a Govt that is too big for its boots, its just another Kangaroo Court.

Entertainment, we did know these people existed before 9-11. Al Quaida bombed the World Trade center once before. At one point Bin Laden was in Syria and they offered to hand him over to us, but Bill Clinton turned them down. I don't consider the execution of terrorists to be a simple revenge issue. Criminals are executed to keep society safe for other people. When someone is beyond redemption or rehabilitation, keeping them alive is a waste of time, money, and air.

Who says that they deserve a fair trial? They don't at all..was it fair to us when they plotted and acted out a plan that killed countless people, took down 2 buildings, and shook the core of the America that people were comfortable in the safety of? They deserve whatever is coming to them and hopefully it will be no mercy.. Thanks for stopping by TKO!

Entertainment- I mostly agree with you actually the gov't isn't looking at the bigger picture. They have claimed though that they have known about these guys for years. There is a video apparently about this guy admitting he plotted it, the confession was recorded for posterity and no reason other than that I guess. They should televise it somewhere so people know the full extent of this guys insanity. Of course, we all know that these are followers of someone else but that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be punished and die for it either. Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, I read it in the papers too here in India and yes, I don’t think you read too much into it. It brought back to my memory the bombings of the Indian parliament and the subsequent acquittal of the main accused. A lot of human rights organizations lauded the Indian govt for its magnanimous gesture and some even said that the main accused was earlier not given a fair trial and that his acquittal has upheld Indian democracy. Loll you see the irony of the situation. A persona hatches a plot to blow up the same symbol of democracy (the parliament) and then seeks justice from the same system that he wanted to destroy. And the worst was when a widow of a soldier killed in defending the Parliament building, openly shouted at the PM accusing of appeasement, she was brushed aside with the allegation that she did not get enough ‘compensation’ from the Govt and hence publicly displayed her emotions. How weird can you get? But I don’t think situation will be any better with a change president. Once in power, politicians conveniently forget their promises and only the present and its future consequences hold any meaning for them and all their actions are aimed towards further ensconcing their position in power and for that they will shake hands to whoever it is and public sentiments be damned.

Sounds like America's judicial system sud...Thanks for educating me on the Indian judicial system. I'm glad we aren't the only ones screwed up at times in that department. I like the last line you wrote, well said and 100% true. Thanks so much for the insightful comment

The pleasure is mine too Skinnychick of knowing that we are not the only people being constantly fooled by opportunist politicians. I was even more surprised to note that on Eid last December, the Empire State Building was coloured green with lights (the pix was all over the papers here in India) and the indignation, anger and frustration of the local Americans (as I read on Mylot) was only natural and expected.
