Do I need a babysitter for myself? |
| |
| I went to bed at 10:30 pm. Then I woke up at 1:15 am to go to the bathroom. After that, I went into the kitchen and felt a warmth behind me as I stood at the sink. My glass coffee carafe (now useless) was on the stove with a burner lit under it. It was bone dry and all the plastic parts are melted. It would not be likely that I'd boil water in a glass container as I have a metal teapot for that. Apparently, I did it, though, and that's the freaky part. I have no memory of doing it. Did I sleepwalk? Did I have a "visitor" (as in ghost)? i'm asking about the ghost part in levity, sort of -- taking it from dfn's discussion about the possibility of being among departed presences. I don't think that's the case, here. it was me -- the mystery is in being totally unaware of doing it. A few months ago, I had another experience. The trash can in my computer room was emptied onto the floor (just part of the contents). The rest was tied in the trash bag and a new bag had been put in the trash can. Do any of you do strange, out of character things that you are totally unaware of doing? It's scary because I could do something dangerous. I could've decided to warm up a towel on the stove top and set the house on fire! | | | | | |

| | You must have done it in your sleep. I'm not very 'active' while sleeping, but my friend once took the clothes out of her hamper that's by her bed, one by one, and put them into a bowl of water that was also near her bed. She woke up to find them all neatly placed in there, not like it had been tipped! It was quite funny. Oh, and another time she walked downstairs, talked to someone who was awake that she doesn't like very much, and even gave them a hug! - and she only vaguely remembered doing so the next morning. But I guess it could be possible to do something dangerous - which definitely wouldn't be funny... | | | | | | |

| | Oh my joyce. You may have slept-walked?? Are you known to do that? I have done some strange things before also because I stay wore out and in a hurry to get things done every day. I have put my hairspary in the refrigerator a couple of times. We have lost our sink garbage disposal rubber drain plug overnight for instance. That is so weird. Who would have ever removed or took that out? | | | | | | |

| | I'm known to talk in my sleep, but not walk. I live alone, so nobody's here to tell me about it. It's unnerving to be acting in total unconscious awareness. Thanks for sharing your stories. | | | |

| | Your welcome. I mumble in my sleep. My husband says he wishes he could understand what I am saying. We have woke up a few times and our lamp is turned on but neither one of us did it. It is a touch lamp so it could have been a surge., but every since I moved it out of the bedroom, it hasn't turned itself on. | | | |

| | Hi Joyce it sounds to me like you slept walked too, but the fact that you awoke and then went into the kitchen tells me that God was watching over you and you were made to realise this before a disaster happened so I wouldn't worry too much re the towel over the stove bitbut can understand your concern. I have left a hob on absent mindedly before think everyone does that at some time and also driven back home to check I'd turned iron off cos I couldn't remember doing it, I had, but had done so automatically had no memory of it. Lets hope you stay put tonight. Very strange though, but wouldn't say it was anything of the eebee geebi kind. Ellie :) | | | | | | |

| | Being out of control of my actions is the scary part. Knowing that God is with me whether I'm conscious or not is comforting. It lets me know that whatever I do in my sleep won't be disasterous. Thank you for your thoughts, Ellie. What's a hob??? | | | |

| | To me, it sounds like you may have a lot on your mind, you are doing too many things at one time or distracted while you are doing something. I do the dumbest things when I try to multi-task or have myself worrying about something and trying to get stuff done. I lost the basket the coffee grounds go into on my coffee maker. The only thing I can think of is that I threw it out with the coffee grounds the other day. I find bills or other documents in with my recipes. And, of course, like the opinions above, you may be doing stuff in your sleep. Interesting. whit | | | | | | |

| | It's a puzzlement, whit. I'm not usually a multi-tasker or try to do too much. I think it's the sleepwalking, and I don't know how to control that. Maybe there is some treatment for it, as another poster said. Thank you for your response. | | | |

| | Good morning Joyce. I am wondering if you have had any change in medication lately? has this occurred before? There are certain medications that can cause sleep walking as a side effect. If this happens again I would for sure talk to your doctor. Its a bit humorous and i am sure you feel somewhat rattled by it. I know I would. I would think you were dreaming of cleaning your house and thought a nice cup of tea would get you motivated... LMAO just keep an eye out (on yourself). Call your doctor if it happens again. | | | | | | |

| | No medication changes, angel. however, I will talk with my doctor about it since it has happened twice. During the daytime before going to bed, had a "different" kind of day in that my daughter came for a visit. We went to a park for lunch, then to a movie -- out of the normal routine. Maybe that contributed, who knows? Thank you for your comments. | | | |

| | what I would do is talk to my doctor about all these things you cannot explain, it could be a number of things, absentmindedness, forgetfulness, or stress, or something more serious like the beginning of alzheimers. He will decide the appropriate action to take, maybe some neurological testing, maybe only asking you a few questions. If you live alone yes it can be a real concern. | | | | | | |

| | Gee, i sure hope it's not forgetfulness or Alzheimer's. One thing I've always been good at is remembering things, although I have been distracted at times and forgot I had eggs boiling in the kitchen and burned the boiled eggs. Hmm -- something to think about. Thanks for your response, Carol. | | | |

| | Well this sounds like maybe you have alot on your mind and just forget about the things you started when you got side tracked. Is this is a persistent thing going on with you? You may want to get checked out. Could be sleep walking. I don't know what they do about that, but do something before you get hurt. | | | | | | |

| | Do you live alone? Maybe what you need is someone to keep you company. If you want to know what is really happening around you in your house why don't you put a camera that can record events on your house then maybe you will know if you are sleep walking and doing all this by yourself or a malevolent spirit is doing it. It is worth a try. :) | | | | | | |

| | That's a great idea, p3. It would be expensive to set up, I think. It happens so infrequently, and for right now I'll just take my chances. Thank you for your idea. It's something that I might look into down the road. | | | |
