Do celebrity endorsements mean anything to you?

The Kennedy's are behind Barack. The old Civil Rights leaders are behind Hillary A bunch of actors and musicians are behind Barack. Madonna supports Hillary Diddy backs Barack. Perez Hilton supports Hillary Does it even really matter?! And by celebrities, I'm referring to anyone in the public eye - actors, rappers, musicians, writers, nobel laureates, former presidents (and their wives), politicians, media moguls etc. Do celebrity endorsements even matter - and do they do candidates more harm than good?

In POLIITICS? No not at all... it just means that person is in sync with the person running... it can also be a lot more political than that.... Romney just today supported McCain... because he wants to? No, he figures McCain is the guy who is most likely to win the White House over the two that are left. When it comes to other things then yes... kinda.... If I am looking at fitness equipment and there is a fitness instructor or famous fitness person (Chuck Norris, Arnold, etc...) that is endorsing it, I will at least take more time to take a look at the product. Thanks Zelo

You got it... So I guess that would be another category of expert celebrity endorsement? Thanks Zelo

I guess if a celebrity in an expert then it makes sense to listen to them because they probably know what they are talking about but some just endorse for the money and have no idea about if it's good or not.

Oh, I think celebrities influence the public. For instance, Oprah had a huge turnout at the Obama event. I try not to let the endorsements mean anything to me and read read read the issues. I'm not giving enough attention as I should, heck it could be a full time job. But how many folks are being influenced by celebrity endorsement and just plain emotion! It's an easy way out, the issues are confusing, the media does its best to educate and confuse us equally.

I am an Aussie so I don't get to vote in the US elections but I think one has to think for themselves as important elections like this can be life changing...

It doesn't mean anything to me. I have my own opinion. However, many people are looking at celebrity as better sort and they know more about celebrity than own family.... I don't think they do any harm...

I really don't get all this celebrity worship. They put their pants on one leg at a time just like the rest of us. Why should they be an authority on someone just because they are famous.

I personally do not give a ripe rat's rump who the celebrities endorse! Actually, in some ways I think it might be harmful when a celebrity endorces a particular candidate. This is especially true when the celebrity has had a lot of negative publicity (such as Paris Hilton). Folks might say to themselves, "well if the likes of Paris Hilton like that candidate, then they certainly must have some reason and I don't want to be a part of it." I mean, yes, that is shallow thinking, but we all know that there are those who think in that manner!
