I heard my teenagers listening to their stereos the other day and was rather suprised to hear the songs they were listening to....stuff I listened to in High School! I asked them about their favorite artists were and they actually mentioned Def Lepard, Bon Jovi and Billy Joel! It sure is neat to hear a song from Nylon Curten and have the kids actually recognize it. Does anyone else having this experience are are my kids just weird (which is ok by me by the way)?

my son is 18 now and he listens to all the greatest hits from yesterdays. Lynnrd skynrd, Bob Segar, Pat trevors band, steve miller and even Charlie daniels and hank williams Jr. even songs further back then that. I asked him why and he said because this music I can understand and it has heart. I was shocked that he don't have today's music R/B hip hop stuff nothing wrong with it i listen to alot of it myself. His favorite is Ozzie....can you believe it at that young of an age and loves music that i can enjoy along with him as well.

This should just show you that we (you and I) grew up in the greatest time musically! With all those great bands...and let not forget the 'long hair' bands that sprouted from them and tore up the 80's like Bon Jovi (before he went country, can you believe that?), ACDC and Quiet Riot. One of my kids actually bought, for himself, some CD with rockers from the 80's...but guess who 'borrowed' it. Me! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. The music was so great and it made my life something special! :-)

No, your kids aren't weird...unless mine are too. I played a lot of Billy Joel when the kids were little, and they appreciate him today. They also like to listen to 80s music. I laughed when my son asked me to listen to a "great song." I told him that it was someone I listened to in the 80s. Bon Jovi has really aged well. I still enjoy his music. He has beautiful teeth.

It sure is great to think the bands I listened to during high school are still the 'greatest'. Have you tried Guitar Hero (Xbox/PS2)? There is a game of it called 'Rocking the 80's' which is absolute blast! If you've always wanted to rocks I would highly suggest you try it out some time! Have you been to your HS reunions yet? I haven't but maybe someday. No one I really want to catch up with, especially my ex wife! LOL

My son is 5 so he's still more about Sesame Street, etc, but I am so glad to hear that your teenagers love Billy Joel. In my mind he is timeless. I love the music as much as or more than I did when I first heard songs 20+ years ago. It is still amazing to me that he writes the music of his songs first and then fills in words - to me the words are so powerful and poignant that I can't believe they are not the impetus of the song. But however he gets them out there, it's all good to me!

It is great that my teens are listening to something so great! They told me that today's music is to 'rap-py' (is that a word?) and that it doesn't make much sense. The cool thing, I feel is the word Joel uses and the humble beginnings he comes from. Do you think he thought his music would be talked about so many years after he released them? What is your favorite song/album? What memories do you have with it?
