How much money would people save, in your area, if they stopped smoking cigarettes? How much is a carton in your area? I don't even know for my area, it just seems like a lot of people say they have no money, and they still keep buying cigarettes. It seems like if they buy a carton a week (not a package of one), they must really spend money with all the taxes on it now and that if they quit, they could pay at least one bill with the money they didn't use for cigarettes. How much $ in your area and would it pay one bill a month?

I don't smoke, but I have seen price as low as $3.50 a pack to $7.00 a pack - I'm not sure about the carton, but I think they are around $45. Whenever I see one of those articles that say to save money do these things - one of them is always quiting smoking, or stop drinking because it is so expensive. Also those Starbucks drinks are listed too. Unfortunately, I don't use any of that stuff so I can't save any money by stopping! lol

Well, good point, but you're saving money by not starting! $45 dollars a week, what bill or bills would you have trouble paying. Like your name, SukiSmiles with an avatar of a smiling person (is that you?). Thank you for responding. Take care

You can take that theory to anything and see the huge savings you could have - my blog is all about saving money - (link is in my profile - Coffee Break Whatever Save Money) and you'd be amazed at how much money people waste and don't even know it! A $3.75 cup of coffee at Starbucks every day for a year is $1468.75! Can you believe it!?!?! Nearly $1400 a year just to have 1 - ONE - ONE cup of flavored coffee each day! My gosh what I could do with $1400 every year! I don't drink coffee, but boy if I did, I'd find something else to drink!

That's very true. I don't drink coffee, but I started making my own tea at home and bringing it to work, that saved me some money. I also started drying my own berry leaves and using them for tea, that saved me some more (raspberry, blackberry, etc.). It's almost $3 for a few ounces of dried leaves. Take care and thank you very much for pointing this out.

Well I used to spend about 60 dollars a fortnight on a carton which lasted me. Ttowards the end I started smoking alot more, and was buying a packet nearly every day rather than a carton. In the end I had either a choice of buying smokes or buying food and I made the right choice. I'm saving myself at least 140 dollars per month now.

Good for you! That is excellent! $140 dollars a month can buy a decent amount of food. Thank you very much for your response.

i am a non smoker. but i think i can assume the price of a cig box here. it atleast 15 INr here. so say a person consumes 10 boxes per month, he can save 150 RS. it can pay some of his needs.

I would say a carton is about $30.00 here. I have a relative that bought a car contingent on his quitting smoking to make the car payment. Needless to say, he didn't quit smoking and who knows what will happen now. I don't smoke, thank goodness for that money not going out, but i also wonder what habits I have that are costing me money as well. Like mentioned above, soda pop, and then my take out food and it goes on and on. We would all have more money

Yes, there are so many ways people can cut down besides smoking, glad this has gotten people to think about these things. Maybe we'll all have more money when we analse our spending habbits better. Thank you very much for your response. Too bad he didn't quit and make the car payments. That's something that someone could make a car payment with the amount he smoked. Wow!

That's terrific! Congratulations! Have you noticed that you have more money? Can pay for more things? Anything else like better breathing? Good luck and take care.
