Your choice: Travel OR Sleep in your own bed! |
|
Of course, no one has to make the absolute choice, at least in most cases. But if you can choose, would you rather take an exotic vacation and sleep in planes, trains, cars, and motels, maybe campers and tents-- or... would you choose to stay home and be as cozy as a kitten in a cushioned basket by the fireplace all the time in your own bed?
I love my own bed, my own sheets, my own pillows. Even the smell of my own laundry detergent is comforting to me. For sure, some people not sleeping in their own beds have trouble with soap or product allergies which I don't have.
At the same time I have to say I love to travel, but I often don't sleep as well when I am away from home. For sure, during trips we often have such a busy schedule and full days that it's easy to fall into a heavy sleep no matter where you lie down.
What do you prefer?

1. TheHairDresser (3366) | 2 years ago | Any day, kb, I prefer my own bed. I too, like the smell of my own sheets, and as I do have allergies to certain laundry soaps and fragrances, I do have that reason alone for my preference. Although, I would not be impartial to lying in a clean white-linened bed, comfy and drifting, with a nice open window with the smell of the salty sea air and a beautiful view to the sea, the ocean which I love so much here in New England! xo

kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | I love the smell of the ocean. Traveling in the Maritime provinces, near the Gulf of Mexico, or along the US East coast are all among my favorite trips. Again, I keep myself so busy that I usually sleep like a rock regardless of where I am.

2. maximax8 (10427) | 2 years ago | I prefer the excitement on traveling than sleeping in my own bed. I like to sleep on a plane and wake up far away. I love to sleep in a comfortable train compartment feeling the gentle motion of the engine rock me to sleep. I stayed in a tree house fro a couple of nights in Belize. I spent a few nights in a thatched beach hut in Mexico. When I was in Kenya I stayed in a safari style tent. I have spent many nights in my own tent as well. In Jordan I spent a couple of nights sleeping on a flat roof. In Samoa I slept in a traditional fale, a thatched building feeling a gentle sea breeze and hearing the waves softly crashing at the shore.

kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | The last time I traveled on a plane I was coming home from a five day vacation that was packed with activity. I fell asleep when we took off and didn't wake up until we began to descend three hours later, and I was sleeping so I wasn't chewing my gum. Painful way to wake up!

maximax8 (10427) | 2 years ago | Yes, waking up when almost landing must have been awful. I wear ear planes, plastic screw like things in my ears to avoid the pressure that affects my ears. They are uncomfortable after eight hours though. On to way to Fiji I had three plane seats to lay down on and that was blissful. Happy traveling.

3. ljegbers (5761) | 2 years ago | I did do my share of traveling when I was younger, but I preferr to sleep in my own bed with my own blankets and my own pillow. I'm not much of a sleeper anyway and it's even harder when it's not in my own home.

5. polachicago (7872) | 2 years ago | I love to sleep in my own bed. Nothing compared to my fancy matters and my comfy bed. When away from home, usually I can not seep well. I hate hotel places and bedding always smell funny and it is not pleasant to touch.... I rather sleep in tents than in hotel rooms....unless it is fancy place, usually hard to afford when travel alone...

kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | Hotels and even motels are terribly expensive now, it's true. I don't think camping out means sleeping. It's usually too damp for my liking, even if it isn't raining.

|
|
polachicago (7872) | 2 years ago | I never actually camp, I rent small trailer and it is camping for me....

|
kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | I only really slept in a tent on the ground once when I was in college. As a girl scout we had huge tents that slept about a dozen girls like sardines in sleeping bags on wooden platforms with "waterproof" canvas for a roof. I never got home dry. LOL. As for trailers or campers, and being from a somewhat rural area, I always laugh at the city folk who come to camping areas where the campers are lined up in rows even more crowded close together than the houses in the city. How relaxing can that be?

|
|
polachicago (7872) | 2 years ago | I don't stay in typical camping. I always find private resort when owner has only few spots to camp, or rent the space per week. I need to be almost alone when relaxing... I have few places for summer when I can call and reserve the trailer or cottage for weekend. I like to have my own kitchen and my own bedding.

kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | To me, that's more like cottaging than camping. Nothing wrong with it at all though.

6. Porteno (75) | 2 years ago | I'm afraid that this is one of those no-brainers for me. Traveling beats anything hands-down. Maybe the fact that I can sleep perfectly fine on a bed of nails while being bitten by giant mosquitoes with the noise of a thunderstorm on the background makes it easier, but still. For me, comfrot will never be an issue not to travel. But it takes all kinds, I guess....

7. sacmom (5814) | 2 years ago | I prefer the comfort of my own bed. I remember the last time I went and visited one of my family members up in her cabin in the mountains when I was a teenager. As pretty as it was up there I just wasn't comfortable staying the night, especially with having cramps due to being on my period. I wanted nothing more than to go home to my own bed and go to sleep. However my family wanted my mom and I to stay. But my mom understood and we went home. Just knowing we were going home helped me relax even though it was a 3 hour drive! Cramps or no cramps I would rather be home than travel places. I guess I'm just a homebody!:)

kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | Traveling with our periods is a big minus. I am so glad I am finally coming to the end of that soon. It not only makes it harder to sleep, I am always nervous about leaving my "calling card" on the linens.:(

kbkbooks (2235) | 2 years ago | My sister always carries her own pillow, ever since she was very young. At times I do too, especially if I think I will be sleeping in the car, which doesn't happen much now and won't until my kids get their licenses. One is only a few days away! ZZZZZZZZ

10. MGjhaud (3529) | 2 years ago | I feel the same, if my bed can talk i'll marry it. I love being on top of my bed especially if there's no class.
But at the same time, I love traveling. I wanted to see the rest of the world on my own eyes. I wanted to travel outside my country. It doesn't really matter if it'll take me sometime to get somewhere, I just love to go around the world. Sleeping in a bus or planes is okay with me, no problem. As long as I have the budget -- I'm good to go.
