I was surprised a few years ago when the American Dental Association announced that we only need brush our teeth once a day! if done properly. At a minimum I think it should be twice a day - in the morning to get rid of the residue that has sat there all night and in the evening to get rid of the gunk that accumulated during the day.
when I was young and dieting I used to brush my teeth whenever I felt the urge to eat - it helped me put off eating because the food would not taste well and I did not wish to mucky up my teeth and fresh breath.

I brush my teeth morning and night and i also floss..I do not like eating after i brush my teeth at night either...I have to eat after the morning brush because we have lunch and dinner, but after dinner and i brush my teeth and floss, no more eating for me...I Do not like listerine because it burns to much , however it is good but i have to use a milder type mouth wash....

Ideally, 3 times a day but when I was still working in a call center, I brush more often than that because I was faced with strangers all the time. I was more careful not to create a bad impression about myself. But it is not correct to overbrush our teeth because what is too much may be unhealthy. Too much brushing can cause our teeth enamel to get damaged and we lose our teeth's natural protection. Anyway, I am just staying home, right now. I reverted to brushing only after every meal.
