I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and we had tea. Just regular plain ol tea. Then I moved down South and I went to the Dollar store one day and lo and behold I saw Red Diamond Sweet Tea and I wondered what is such a thing? I bought one took a drink and was in love at first drink. I dont know why they dont sell this glorious drink all over the country. Even McDonalds carrys it down here lol.

I was lucky! My Grandma was born and raised in OK and she always made sweet iced tea. My mom learned how and has made it a staple beverage in her home all my life. I have perfected a way of sweetening an unsweetened iced tea at a restaurant. Take their glass size into account. Add 1-2 sugars plus 1 pk of equal and one pk of nutra sweet. Mix together. You have a 15-30 calorie drink that is the perfect sweetness. If provided add a squeeze of lemon and you're in tea bliss.
I get picked on by my friends when I do this, but it really is good! I love sweet tea, but I also have to mind my calories. I get mad when the restaurant only has splenda - yuck! If I wanted a completely calorie free sweet tea, I would use a dash of STEVIA which is a herb that has sweetening properties. It's also anti-oxidant, just spendy and I don't have the extra $ to buy the 4 oz for $10! If it were strictly for sweetening tea and lemonade, then I could see spending the $$
My fav commercial sweet tea, is the diet Gold Peak Iced Tea. Great to find this on the road!

When I visited NC a few years ago, the Olive garden had a great sweet tea. The waitress at the Ashville location, she offered us a cup to take home with us. They were huge and free! It lasted from Asheville all the way to the middle of Virginia on my way back north. haha

I've never had Red Diamond Sweet Tea, but may very well like it too. I like sweet tea made with a dissolved sugar syrup. I add the sugar to the hot tea if I'm being a little lazy, but somehow it tastes better when made with the syrup. I remember years ago, they never served "iced tea' up north in the winter in the restaurants. It was coffee or hot tea. Now it's on the menus everywhere. Do they say "sweet tea" on the menus in the south? ..whit

Yes they actually do Whit. It is extremely well known here. You can order it at McDonalds! When you say tea its defined as sweet or unsweet. I have a bottle in my hand I went to the store after writng that to get some it is delcious. It says Water, Sugar, Orange Pekoe and pekeo tea on the ingrediants. It is so delicious.
