I always love to eat sea foods, specially when they were steamed, but during this past few months I have developed an allergy from it. Everytime I eat fish, shrimps, and other crustacians, my shoulders get itchy first and then my back , my hands, and other parts of my body. Did I get it form eating sashimi (a slice of raw fish or seafoods)before?

yummy lobsters - they were fried and dipped in hot water
hi there... we all have allergens triggered when the food is not pure. i speak about the seafood, eating something strange in their system.. then we came to digest it and histamine goes wrong.. i grew up in a very abundant seafood country, philippines.. everyday i eat all stuffs may it be fish or shells or sea weeds or etc.. i love seafood.. and i agree, steamed cooked is the best^_^ but even if i am used to eating them, there are times when i have eaten in a restaurant which i dont know where they got their stocks and supply.. i had reactions, my allergies are triggered.. thats why i personally know where to purchase real fresh seafoods.. thats my advice for you as well.. choose where is the best. im tired of being a victim.. one thing more, always ask where the shrimp was cultured, was it in mud swamps or an ocean catch.. because most probably shells born in swamps do trigger our allergy, because of water contamination and our bodies are not used to it. so dont worry, just avoid it for few days.. but eventually, as dermatologist says, it must be immunity.. all we need is to eat the things we are allergic to immunize the body for making it adaptable and accepting it to our system. so take care omar^_^

And as much as I love seafood! There is something in shellfish, that causes a lot of problems to allergic people! My younger brother and I, every once in a while when we eat shrimp, we will break out in red sploches all over our bodies! And its not everytime, just randomly! And the doctors said that it was an allergic reaction to shellfish! Also, I have gout in my feet, that sometimes flares up, and the doctors told me, to cut down on red meat, and shellfish! And I noticed, that as long as I don't eat any shellfish, i don't have any gout flare-ups!

Do you get all of your seafood from one place? If so you could be getting mercury poisoning or other toxins from the water the seafood lived in. You could have developed an allergy, but I would more point to either how its cooked, processed or the water the animals lived in. You can always get tested for a seafood allergy. Otherwise, I would stay away from it.
