Tax Preparation Shock - Follow Up  

This will be the third year we have purchased software, but we will also look at the free site. How about your state taxes? How do you file them?

Good morning! I was hoping that reading this would prompt me to get our taxes filed immediately (I've done e-filing for a few years now) but... drat, I don't think it's going to work because I have a lot of things I need to do today. Maybe Monday, though... that would be a good time.

Problem this time is that I have a sick feeling we'll have to pay in instead of getting a refund for the first time ever. :-(

Absolutely....I always have my refund within ten days, that is with direct deposit. I would never pay a service again to do taxes....it is easy enough to do yourself.

Although I missed your tax discussion, I couldn't help but reply to this one anyway.
Tax preparation in Australia is a rip off. I pay $160 to get my tax completed. For many years I prepared my own tax, but it became too complicated with my investments & owning a second house. I have no choice but to pay someone now.
Hubby gets his tx done too, so the whole thing costs us over $300. I wish he would do his own tax, as it is straight forward with not much in the way of deductions.
If I could do mine online free, I would attempt it, if it wasn't for the complications in mine.
I sit there & watch the tax accountant do my tax, & it is all computerised now & very easy for her. Last time she spent a while telling me all about the affair her married boss was having wity the secretary.
