DVD box sets of series of favorite past shows - what do you watch?  email this discussion to a friend?

Now that full seasons of series shows and sitcoms are on DVD and you can get the box set of your favorites...and in my opinion, there ins't much on tv these days worth the electricity to turn the tv on....

what are your favorite past shows and how often do you watch them? And could you do an all day watching the box set from season 1 to final season?

I am a I Love Lucy fana nd have the seasons, but I don't have to pull them out as she is on every day at some point in time. But at night, yes I will put on the LucyDesi Comedy hour, those don't air much. I also like Gilmore Girls and could watch that for hours (while on MyLot!).

What about you? What do you watch and how often and how long?

I love Andy Griffith, and Lucy the best. I also like Leave it to Beaver, and Ozzie and Harriet. I like that channel that plays all the old sit coms. I used to like to watch Hogan's Heros. It was funny because it was a parody of WWII I think.. and Hogan was always making fun of the Commandant.

We watched a couple of re runs on TV, and my kids screamed that they didn't want to watch I love Lucy, and hten when it started they were the ones glued to the TV and they were the ones laughing their heads off.

My favorite episodes was when Ethyl and Lucy worked in the chocolate factory, and the Vita Vega Vegamite commercial episode, there were plenty of other episodes Iliked and thought were funny but those 2 episodes stick out in my mind...

And what turned my kids off to episodes like that is the originals in black and white, they wanted color tv, but the black and white episodes are the ones I sometimes love...

I can pretty much receit every show to you! My favorite is the Paris Gowns where Lucy wants an original designer gown, fakes a food strike and Ricky feels bad for her and buys her one and then when he finds out about her hoak, he takes the dress back but then has a tailor make ones out of feed sacks and atells Lucy and Ethal they are the originals just to get back at them. It goes on, but I will stop! My second favorite is when they are packing the car to go to Hollywood! Hilarious!

I like Andy Griffith too. Calming and fun to watch a show without tons of violence, killings, rapes, s*x and all that other crap. Just some neighbors helping each other out and learning about life and how to live it! Iam watching for that box set - but it is a bit pricey. I have them all on VHS so I'll just keep watching till they break! Hopefully the DVD's will be afordable by then!

I was at target today and just always check the usual sale racks in every department and there it was...only one... the first season of The Andy Griffith Show! the box set! For $19.99. I had looked on ebay and amazon and it was lowest $24.99 so I grabbed it for $19.99! Also for $9.99 I got all three Free Willy movies - box set - for my Grand daughter as she loves Orca whales.. I know she imagins herself in that little boys shoes!

For awhile I was watching the Dawsons Creek series. It went off the air a few years ago with 6 seasons. So I got them and watched them for awhile. I dont watch it now though.

Yeah, they seem to be making sure they stay up to date on current shows - even Desperate Housewives is now out with all seasons and it is still on the Network! It is just nice to be able to watch your favorite whenever you want to!

Hey Coffee,

I have several favorites, and not all of them do I have on DVD, because I'm usually strapped for cash....but we have Night Court, Full House, Little House on hte Prairie, and Fraggle Rock

I also have a few episodes, nto boxed sets of Beverly HillBillies and Andy GRiffith Show

WE want to add

Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Family Matters, Home Improvement, Knight Rider, and MacGyver

the new shows just don't compare to the sitcoms from the 70s to early 90s

oneandone...You got that right! These days sitcoms don't hold a candle to the 70's, 80's and early 90's. The comdey just isn't there. I loved Family Matters! Laughed through the whole show! Don't do that these days!

I remmeber Fraggle Rock - my daughter loved that! I should look for that for my GD> I just bought the 3 seasons of Flipper from the 60's for my other GD, she loves dolphins and she is addicted to Flipper now!

I always watch and wait for cheaper prices. They are a bit pricey. I am looking into buying used sets - just don't know aboaut the scatches and if they are returnable (and have to pay return postage) or if the place would even accept the return if you said it was scratched.

KNow my other favorite? Here Come the Brides!! Loved that show and those amazing men!! Of course Bobby Sherman was my favorite. I did splurge nad bought the first season, second hasn't comeo ut and there were only 2. The memories that show has are priceless!

I recorded most of Home Improvement and Hillbillies too on VHS.

I have box sets of Starsky and Hutch, and the Professionals, both of which I have spent hours watching when particularly bored.

There are alot I'd like to get but they are pricey. Golden Girls, Roseanne, Charmed, CSI: Vegas, CSI: Miami, Law and Order...to name a few. I doubt I'll ever get them all but I pick one up now and then. I wish they didn't cost so much but that's how it goes.

What I have been doing is watching Amazon.com. The box sets come on sale for $15 each. If you spend $25 you get free shipping - and it is really quick shipping time! But I just wait and watch and they will come on sale and usually they will have at least 2 seasons for $15 each so I get them then. I have just gotten the Mary Tyler Moore show seasons 1-4 and watched 2 seasons yesterday and literally laughed all day long!!! I got these cause of a sale Amazon.com had - a BOGO sale. So I my "bill" was $23.99 for season 2 and then $23.99 for season 3. That gave me free shipping. Then they gave the BOGO and the total was $23.99 - so $14 per season! I have collected several box sets like this. Just watch and wait and they will come on sale - probably good sales come christmas time. I put the ones I wnat on my Wish List and if htey come on sale, I get notified that an "item on your wish list just went on sale" and I can watch for the sales that way to.

Just nothing on tv anymore. THe sitcoms of the 70's were just the funniest ever.
