Who has personalized auto plates? What is the allure of these plates?

Why? Just for fun? Is it worth the extra cost? Who thinks this is silly and has the plates the state passes out?

I have never bothered with the personalized plates. It seems kinda silly to me. Knowing me I would pick one and then change my mind to a different one, but it would be too late and I would be stuck with the first plate.

Well, it would help you know that it was your car with the headlights on if an overhead announcement was made. Otherwise, ??? I dunno.
