I woke up this morning, turned on the news and felt like I got punched in the stomach. My beloved Brett Favre has retired. Almost everybody here in Wisconsin was hoping he would stay for one more season and one more Super Bowl run. I'm so completely bummed out. I can't imagine watching games without watching his unbelievable arm deliver that ball to Driver, Lee, Grant and Franks. Football Sundays will never be the same for me. Now it's time to pass the legacy to Rodgers. How do you think the team will do without him?

I am not an avid football fan. But at least I kinda know who you are talking about...

There will be lots of sad people out in the world!

I know my girls (14) have actually told me he is a fine piece of man! LOL For his age.

Don't really know what they will say to this now.

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

HAHAHA! I think he's a fine piece of man myself. Every year the Packers play a charity softball game in Appleton and I've been fortunate enough to see those games 3 times and everybody just goes crazy when he come out onto the field. His oldest daughter plays too. She always pulls some kind of prank on Donald Driver. A few years back she got Driver with the help of Brett and they gave him a face of whip cream. None of that stuff will ever be the same. Even t.v show are being cancelled here so the press releases and conferences can be aired. It's almost like losing a loved one and has brought me to tears a little because he is soooo loved by everyone here. I'm going to be extremely sad about this for a long time to come.

myLot reputation of 94/100. KKKBsmom (928)   ranked 20 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

yeah i just texted one of them at school... the one who calls him "fine piece of man" lol and she was sad.. I guess they had heard at school this morning!

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

That just cracks me up about your daughter calling him that and saying he looks good for his age. He's the same age as me so now I feel old, LOL!~D

myLot reputation of 94/100. KKKBsmom (928)   ranked 20 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

LOL actually I have twin girls that are 14...they both like him... but one is more into...the "HOT" guys! LOL I have no clue why she says that either. She has some old soccer player she thinks is "FINE" also... weird!

myLot reputation of 85/100. oneandonemakesix (23975)  4 years ago

While things won't be the same, I have to say right now that I bet he will do a lot of things in just a different way,

But 18 years playing football is a long time, my kids don't follow sports that much, my youngest son loves NASCAR, and that's about it, we can follow football but don't get into it, we watched the superbowl for the commercials

While it feels like the team is loosing a loved one, I bet he will stay active and maybe find other ways to stay in football...I think there will be many open doors for him.

I think all we can do at this point in time is show him our love and support as he takes a new path in life....

And I wouldn't be surprised if Green Bay let him come back and take part in some of their charity events.

I'm heartbroken right along with you. #4 is a great player, a great leader, and a fine human being. I wish he would have played one more season, too, but he knows best what he can do. I really respect his decision to leave while he can still compete on such a high level. I am certainly glad he had a good season to end on, even if they weren't able to go all the way. The young players who rallied with Brett to play so well last year will certainly carry his influence on in the league.

There's a lot of talent there, but, historically, teams struggle for a couple of seasons after their legendary QB's retire. Good luck in the draft, hope to see you again this year in the playoffs!

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

Thanks for the luck for the draft. I heard them talking with Ted Thompson and he said that Favre called Randy Moss who is now a free agent and asked him if he would come to Green Bay. Appararently he told Moss if he came to GB , Favre would play another season. Moss signed a huge long term contract after that with N.E. Was extremely happy to see your Giants take down those Patriots. That was an extremely loud and rowdy SuperBowl at our house. We were jusmping up and down and screaming and cheering when they won. Good luck to you in the draft and yes, we will be talking in the next season. Take care.~D

This is very sad. It is the end of an era. He is The Best quarterback, hands down. No one comes close. It will not be the same without him. I'm not sure I'll even watch.

But, a couple of times before he talked about retiring and changed his mind. Maybe it's not too late. I will wait for opening day next year with my fingers crossed. Just one more season, pretty please??

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

I know he's done that in the past but as of the news right this minute that I'm watching they are saying it'as really true this time. But c'mon don't give up on my Packers we gottas cheer them on for next season. And Rodgers did show a lot of promise in the game against Dallas.

All I've heard are the reports state he is going to retire. But no date etc has been released as to when this will happen. he is the best QB ever in my mind. Bummer for Packer Backers. But good news for other teams like the Vikes in the league. It's going to be a long process rebuilding this team without Brett but they still have the team to do well.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

It's definately true I just checked the Packers website and the Gm has confirmed it on the news here. I think they should do ok and not have too hard of a time rebuilding. Like I said above, Rodgers showed a lot of promise against Dallas and they have a lot of young extremely promising player, just look at what Grant did last season. He had a great season after coming off the injured reserve the year before and the practice squad for the Giants before that. I noticed you mentioned the Vikes there Grandpa Bob. You're not a Vikes fan are you? If you are we're gonna have some serious conversations during the season to come, LOL!

myLot reputation of 96/100. webeishere (12986)   ranked 25 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

Yeah I guess I am a sort of Vikes fan. I grew up in Detroit and the Lions are still my first love but the Vikes are a close second. Or 3rd ahahaha! They are not ever number one. Haven't been for years actually. HAHAHAHA!!

HAHAHA I'll go easy on you about the Lions because I like them too but you'll never get me to like the Vikes even a little. That would get me thrown right out of town by the Packer fans here, LOL!~D

I am stunned.I love Brett and think he is awesome..and the comeback he and his team made last season was great..I thought for sure since they got as far as they did..he would try to win the whole this this up coming season...but I guess not..He wil be missed and I trully think they will never be a greater QB..in Green Bay than Brett......I am just so stunned......
Rogers has huge shoes to fill...and I have no idea what the team will do without him on it..

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

I think it will be a long time before the NFL ever sees a QB with that kind of talent. He's broken and now holds almost every record he could possibly have. In a way I feel kind of sorry for Rogers because for years to come everyone is going to compare him to Favre and he'll kind of be in his shadow. In a way Rogers is now going to be like Eli Manning was a few years back when everyone compared him to his big brother Payton. I'm anxious to see how he does though.

As as avid football fan I know how you feel! I felt the same when my beloved Dan Marino retired. It will be hard on the fans. The team will adjust but it will take a while. Sad to hear though, he was the last of the "tough guy quarterbacks".

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

Dan Marino was one of the best. Look how long he ehld those records until Favre broke them. I don't think anyone will break Favre's records that he holds now in my lifetime. I never thought I would be this sad about this. I knew the day was coming but a few weeks ago they made it sound like he would be back for one more season. I'm going to miss all the excitement he brings and all the enthusiasm he had when he played. I loved watching him after a TD and how he'd jump around like a kid laughing and carrying people on his shoulders. That was one of my favorite things about him.

Yes, my hubby will be bummed about this. I'm sure he saw the news online already. He's been a Packers fan for years even though we live in PA. I don't know anything about Rodgers, but hopefully he'll do the team proud!

We had figured he would retire this year, we were upset the Giants won the playoff game for that reason...I think though all teams need changes from time to time...hopefully your new QB will do well...i am a steelers fan, so we were all surprised when Ben took us to the superbowl...man, i really miss football...the winter really drags without it!

myLot reputation of 99/100. dfinster (1860)   ranked 12 out of 41 in green bay packers  4 years ago

They had interviews with the GM and McCarthy last night as well as a few other players and they thought that he was going to stay for one more year. I like the Steelers too and have been a fan of theirs since I was a kid. I heard Ben just signed a huge deal with them for something like 120 million ver I think it was 7 years?~D

Hey DF

I am not a huge football fan but I can follow with the best of them, and I can understand that while he may retire from football, I think that his career will open may doors for him, from announcer to maybe couch, or play coordinator...

I think it will take time for people to adjust to him not being on the team anymore, but the torch will be passed and while players may come and go I have to say right now that for his fans they will forever love and miss him.

I hope he does stay around football in some form. Last night they had an hour long special about his career and I know this sounds stupid but my family was actually brought to tears a few times.~D
