I used to volunteer as a lunch lady for the school system and when peanut butter sandwiches were to be made they required per state law to have 1.4 cup of peanut butter on each sandwich. THAT is a lot of peanut butter for a child, especially, to choke down - and much got wasted - I could have made a half a dozen sandwiches with that amount of peanut butter.
When you make a peanutbutter sandwich do you glob it on or smooth a thin layer on?

Now a days in our lunchroom, kids get Uncrustables if they want PBJ. The only problem is that sometimes they are still frozen in the middle, Yuck.
I love PBJ and spread a smooth layer over my bread.

oh wow! just like the post above yours. I guess that is a going thing. lucky for smuckers to have such a vending contract. I wonder why the schools would opt to do this, it does not seem like it would be very cost effective, and the kids won't get as full with less sandwich. hmmm.

It boils down to money. I'm sure they get the sandwiches at a discount rate. In the long run it probably saves them money because one lunch person does not have to make the sandwich, wrap, etc. they can be doing something else.

I smooth a thin layer on. Who wants globs of peanutbutter stuck in there mouth? That is way to much - 1.4 cups? They must have a protein quota they have to reach. At my kids' school the pb and j's come prepacked made by smuckers. You know, the ones without a crust. They have a lot of peanutbutter in them too.

I think 1/4 is still too much too. And I always wondered - what do they do with the crust? Seems like a waste.

I love peanut butter. I usually spread it on pretty thick but not quite 1/4 cup :) I think I used to spread it pretty thin though when I was younger. I don't think I would've been able to swallow a fourth of a cup.

Wow, at first I thought that you meant 1 and 1/4 cup of peanut butter but then I read your response that stated you only meant 1/4th of a cup. However, I find 1/4th of a cup of peanut butter to be quite a bit for one sandwich! Geeze, I would need several cups of milk to keep from choking! The sandwiches that you made must have been an inch thick! I tend to smooth on a thin layer when I make a peanut butter sandwich. I am odd in that I prefer mine to be on toast! I love how the peanut butter melts!~

It took me a while to figure out that you meant 1/4 of a cup of peanut butter and I have to agree with you, that is a lot. I love excess quantities of peanut butter on toast, less on a sandwich. With 1/4 cup of peanut butter I could make maybe 2 or 3 sandwiches...but certainly not half a dozen.

Are you kidding - OVER a CUP of peanut butter! That is SO WASTEFUL! I don't know anyone who could eat that much peanut butter - and a kid definately shouldn't eating that much peanut butter! I wonder how much fat is in a cup of peanut butter? Seriously, a serving size is 2 tablespoons, and has 16 grams of fat! There are 16 Tablespoons in a cup, so that would mean that the government was requiring a child's sandwich to have 128 grams of fat on one child's sandwich! But wait - I think you wrote 1.4 cups - how does that even fit on 2 peices of bread?! Absolutely ridiculous!

OK, now that my rant is over, I realized I forgot to answer your question. I like a thick spread of peanut butter with an even thicker spread of honey or jelly.... but no where near even a 1/4 cup!

i love peanutbutter and i spread them , if i can. i find it hard to spread most peanut butter that is from the U.S so what i usually do is to mix some olive oil on it and that helps and since it also tastes bland , i mix it with honey.

Good gracious, that is a LOT peanut butter! I wonder if those children had problems going to the bathroom regularly (sorry, that's the first thing that came to my mind).
I would never use that much on a single sandwich. I don't necessarily smooth it out, but I put a glob and spread it on. It's not real thick, but not stretched to the limit either.
