Take a virtual break

A New York Times folumnist writes "I took a real day off this weekend: computers shut down, cell phones left in my work bag, land-line ringer off. I was fully disconnected for 24 hours." Have you ever taken a break from your gadgets for a full 24 hours? Could you do it?

I usually only do that if I'm taking a day for spiritual purposes, or if my family is spending much-needed time together. I've taken breaks for entire weeks when I wasn't working, though, especially if I was working on something else at the time. While I do think the internet is essential for me in the long run because I get so much of my social stimulation here, it doesn't bother me to go without it for a few days at a time anymore.

I find it very difficult to be without any connection to the outside world. Unless, of course, I am on vacation and away from home. Then it doesn't bother me at all.

OH yes, often and I find it invigorating. We are surrounded by those gadgets way too much and end up depending on them so much that sometimes being away from all of them can be complicated. That's why we enjoy camping so much, We even look for campgrounds with a ban on radios sometimes LOL No computers, cell phones, tv, etc, just us :) We need to learn to relax which is fun because that should be one thing that we all knew how to do :)

I know what you mean. When I was a kid our TV used to break nearly every summer so we had to go outside and just be kids. I found out when I grew up that my dad used to remove a couple of tubes from inside so we couldn't watch it all the time we were home from school. That was back "in the olden days" when TVs had tubes. Haha
