Tonight I'm sitting here at home after a long day and one of my favorite artists of all time- Van Morrison is playing a show in Nashville. Which would be great except I live in Illinois. It is a concert I have always wanted to see and I wish I could have just picked up and gone for the day to see him..but school, kids, and funds, limit that. So I just sit here and sigh...SIGH!He isn't playing Illinois so I won't be able to see him here.
So my question is have you traveled a distance to go see your favorite band? Out of the state you live in or even country? Is it worth the money and time or would you not even bother??? Share your stories I would love to hear them!
Thanks for stopping by!

Oh, Skinny, I'm a Van Morrison freak! Love him to pieces, always have. I saw that he's playing in Nashville, and I also saw tickets for sale on ebay that were going for outrageous prices, which I could never afford, what with travel expenses, hotel, etc, dammit!!!!! Ah, but we can dream, and still listen to his music, as I do almost every day. It's great to know that someone other than myself has such great taste in music. :)

Yep Nova, I saw those ticket prices and they sucked.
But I would have paid for them had I been able afford it!! He would be well worth it though. Astral weeks live would be amazing! :) I love your taste girl!

No, no, Axle, I believe that it is you who are wrong here. Van Morrison is great all the way around. From up to down, from here to there, in a box, with a fox.
And WELCOME, new friend! I look forward to many moments shared with you. :)

I haven't travelled to far to see a favourite band, but I have seen Van Morrison live, in concert. He played at the Brighton Centre, here in England, and he was great!
He played almost all the instruments on the stage, and before the middle of the first song, there was not a seated person in the house. They were all up, and dancing to him. He finished around a quarter to ten, and the cries for an encore were so loud, and continuous that he came back, and carried on for a good half hour. He was brilliant!!! He's such a versatile artist, and even better live.
I also met him online, one Sunday morning. Although this member was called Van The Man, I didn't realise until he started telling me a few things about himself that he was the real thing! I've only seen him online once since, but I don't have his name on my current friends list. I must put it back on!
Brightest Blessings.

I've been a fan of Gary Numan for years and a few years back while living in Calgary, canada he announced that he'd be touring North America, bot of course skipping my hometown. Long story short, my wife bought tickets for the Vancouver show and booked planes tickets, hotel room, the lot. I hung around after the show and got to meet him and shake his hand....probably one of the best nights of my life.

Ok back in september when I was working at DRS we got every other friday off so there was a concert me and my bestfriend wanted to see out in Towson, Md. Well My mom and bro live in Frederick , Md. Which is about 45 minutes from where the concert is. So I made arrangements to go down on friday and come home sunday My gram watched my three oldest and my other friend watched my two youngest. LOL!! I left my van for my boyfriend so that he could go to work and I wouldn't have to worry about emergencies with one of the kids. and yes it was so worth it to go to the within temptation concert. I love them... They are a great band check them out.

Very interesting question. I personally have never traveled to see my favorite band. Fortunately my favorites have played in the cities that I lived in. The strange thing is that in college, I traveled with friends to my home town to see one of their favorite bands. That was one of the best times that I've had on a road trip. We didn't spend much money because my parents allowed us to stay with them. We had a great time. I say go for it. If you have the opportunity to travel...go!

When I lived nearer London I found that many pop stars had concerts. Now that I have moved and have got older I don't bother to travel to see a pop star. I have only been to two pop concerts in my life. I saw Madonna in 1987 and Duran Duran in 1989. Both were excellent with wonderful music. The crowd of people attending was huge and it took ages to get home afterwards. Two of my friends went to a Michael Jackson concert but due to illness he canceled it but they didn't know. They were stuck in the car park for three hours without seeing a pop concert at all! I hope that you get to see the next Van Morrison concert but I understand with kids and lack of funds this is difficult. My sister is keen on music and she wants to go to the Glastonbury Festival but she would need to get a passport to show photographic evidence and she also has her kids to consider. Yes, people came from the other side of Europe to see Duran Duran.

I have never done it myself, but my children do it every year. My youngest always goes to Wee Fest, and I forgot the name of the other one, but they are gone for like a week. It is in another state, they always seem to have the best time. I would go I think if the opportunity arrised and they were bands I really wanted to see.

You sound like my type of gal (or guy). I love James Taylor as well. That is awesome that you took your family and made a whole trip out of it. I would have loved to go last night to see Van. That is one I have never seen and would kill to see. I think he is only playing 3 US shows, they are few and far between. James Taylor plays a little more often but not by much- I bet he is amazing live. That's another one I'm dying to see! Thanks for sharing your story! :)
