Quick to judge... | | | | We are so quick to criticize celebrity women when they are caught on camera without makeup on. We pick on how unattractive they are without their face paint. But, should you be? I don't criticize women like Courtney Cox for what she looked like this weekend when she was photographed sans makeup. The media was uber critical of her because she didn't look her usual beautiful self. Let me tell you...I am fugly without makeup on. First off, I have a nice little hereditary disease where, each year of my life, sees less and less eyebrows. I may or may not have rosacea. Or, it could just be bad skin. I wash it daily but, it is just bad. So, my complexion and my eyebrowlessness makes for a very unattractive cortjo73. What about you? If you are in the habit of laughing at and making snarky comments about a celebrity female caught sans makeup and how unattractive they are...do you have room to talk? Or, would you be as much fodder for ridicule if you were snapped without makeup as those very human female celebs? | | | | | | | | | | Ask a Judge Online 24 Judges and Lawyers Are Online! | | I think there is far to much talk about looks everywhere in society. I think the media should focus om Coxs work rather than her looks when she is not working. I think less stories like this would make women more comfortable with themselves than they are today. What does it really matter to the world if she looks horrid or good on a day off? | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | I agree! I think it is unfair that women are held to a different standard than me. We have to work harder just to get ready to go out in public to feel somewhat ok about ourselves. Never mind what we think or feel about our bodies on any given day. My hubby can get up, brush his teeth, put on a t-shirt, some shorts, shoes and socks and is ready to head out the door in less than 5 minutes. I can do the same if I am willing to feel less than good about myself for the day. And, I do just toss on a cap, something to wear and go. I did it all day yesterday. But, I was more self-conscious than usual, all day long. I think a person is more than their outward worth. Give women like Courtney a break. It is tough having to keep up with your appearance every day. Sometimes, we just want to go at a moments notice. I actually have a funny story about something that happened to me 2 Decembers ago. The hubby and I got up to get our morning lattes. I tossed on a cap, a sweater, some jeans, shoes and went. I was sick with a cold, as usual, and had gone to bed with one of those breath right strips on my nose. I took it off before I left the house but, didn't notice I still had some of the adhesive on my nose. So, the hubby and I got out lattes and were talking about the fact that he wanted me to get a Honda Pilot. He had wanted me to get one since I got my CRV (Honda) about 4 years previously. So, I finally called his bluff. I told him that he kept hounding me about it but, the moment I gave in, he would backtrack. He said, "Try me". So, right then, we headed out to a Honda dealership and test drove a Pilot. I still thought that it might be in the horizon but, not that day. At that point, they were doing their "Happy Honda Days" promotion and were really working to get their end of year quotas so, we talked numbers. We decided on a number. But, the entire time, the guy kept telling me that he was going to have to run a credit check on me. He kept threatening me with it. He really didn't believe that it would come back clean. Over and over again he threatened me with it. I have tremendous credit because I am never late with anything. I can't help think that if it wasn't for my appearance that day, the baggy sweater, baseball cap, jeans and sneakers...and the lovely breath right strip adhesive stuck on my nose (which I still didn't know about) he would only have said he had to check my credit once. I was not cute. And, I look young for my age, especially when I don't have any makeup on and am dressed like a teenager. LOL! So, because of my own experiences based on my appearance, I can't judge another person for what they look like on an off day! | | | | teison2 (4776)

| | Good story! That kind of prejudice is awful. Some people does not look like a million bucks (acording to popular opinion) no matter how hard they work at it, and have to face bad behaviour from people all the time. naturally other peoples looks is what we fist have to go on when we meet someone new. But we should be more open to the possibility that our first impressions based on looks are not always right. Maybe they are not right most of the time? | | | | | | | Ask a Judge Online 24 Judges and Lawyers Are Online! Ask a Question, Get an Answer ASAP. Law.JustAnswer.com | add comment | | | |

| | I don't laugh at them, but it is nice to know that even with all their money, and people to make them look beautiful all the time, that sometimes their just like us! They do have bad hair days, they do choose a bad outfit, they do get the odd spot or two. I say its nice to know cos it's nice to see them as ordinary people who like the rest of us, are flawed. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | I think that celebrities are real people and can do without make-up. They paint their faces because they have to, it's part of their job, but when they're on their days off, I believe that they should be allowed to wash their faces and be natural. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | I agree! They are just people. They just happen to make a lot more money than some of us and have a higher profile job. I like seeing them in all their flawed glory. | | That is a good one.It is one of the easiest things for some people .'Laughing at others'.Thanks for giving me a chance to rant out.I have seen the most disgusting looking males making fun of a good looking actress.I wonder on which authority and gal they can ridicule a person as they themselves will scare the shiit out of any person who happen to have a sudden look at them.It is the sheer complex, and jealousy. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | LOL! Happy to oblige! Rant away! I have seen that too! People who are really both ugly outside and inside and, they say hurtful things about another person's appearance. Good thing I am pretty much non-confrontational because, they would have an earful and may walk away with an entirely new understanding of their own outward appearance, while wondering if they should see a doctor to make sure they actually do have a heart inside their body! A nice verbal lashing is in order sometimes! | | | | balasri (10084)

| | It actually makes me feel better to see the celebs without their makeup on. It makes me realize that they are in fact human too. I don't make fun of them though, that's just childish. I definitely don't prefer the way I look without make up. Without my make up on I could be mistaken for a boy....when I have my hair up and all. I was born a blonde, so my eyelashes and eyebrows are very light...so without make up you can't tell I have them...unless you're up close. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | Same here! I like to see women I admire looking as bad as I do when I get up in the morning. I too was born blonde. I color it a deep, dark, chocolatey brown now. But, what little eyebrows I have are really light and virtually invisible. I feel better with makeup on as well! | | | | | | | Latest Beauty Tips 2012 Discover This Season's Beauty And Make-Up Tips From L'Oréal Paris LorealParisUSA.com/Beauty-Tips | add comment | | | |

| | I saw an interview once with Halle Berry who was telling about the fact that she went out once at 3am to the store to get some milk without makeup. She got caught by photographers and she said she'd never make that mistake again. The woman is beautiful, with or without makeup but it showed how worried she was about what others thought. It made her seem more human to me. Felt like there was hope for the rest of us you know? Celebrities are people first and foremost and we need to realize that. Yeah I've seen some male actors without make up and they look different but it doesn't stop me from enjoying what they do in their careers. I know myself I don't look spectacular even with make-up why should we expect people who for their job have people to make them look fabulous to look the same on their own? One needs to remember they don't have the hair stylist and the make-up artists around at home. They have to do it all their own and that isn't always so easy. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | Halle is beautiful! That frustrates me to know she can't leave her house without makeup on but, it sort of comforts me to know that she, as beautiful as she is, feels insecure too. I just don't like that the public reinforces that insecurity. | | | | emeraldisle (8959)

| | I know what you mean about feeling better knowing she feels insecure too especially with how beautiful she is. I agree it is horrible how the press really pushes at them and how so many people are ready to jump on them for any flaws. | | | | | | | beauty or beauty or Online. | | Unfortunately society is VERY judgmental. If someone is overweight they automatically assume that you are disgusting and lazy when in fact you may have an underlying illness. I have seen it all and its unfair and sick. Believe me and it doesn't only come to only looks. People will judge you for your past, even if you have moved beyond things. I mean its one thing if you purposely committed a murder or a horrible crime that had damaged someone else but for something silly, people to this day judge you. And guess what, I never wear make up! Wonder what they say about me behind my back. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | Oh! So a natural beauty! I'm jealous! That is what I would say behind your back! Check this out...when my hubby and I first moved to our subdivision we were one of the first couples in our cul'd'sac and, when our street was complete, we had a cul'd'sac party with about half of our street (more and we couldn't have fit everyone because it would have been about 200 or more people). So, it was rowdy, adult, inebriated and fun. Everyone had a blast and no one got up much before noon the next day. Well, rewind to the party a little. It trickled down and ended up ending around 4 am. The remaining people at that time were me, my next door neighbors and some neighbors about 5 houses down from mine. So, my neighbor 5 houses down wanted me to see their back patio. They had just had it remodeled and were really proud and, since we were all still winding down, I went over and checked it out. Another hour and a half went by while we chatted. I went back to my house but, the neighborhood busy body from across the street found out what time we finally went to bed. Here's the thing. She doesn't like me for some reason. So, despite the fact that I was one of 3 people who went to bed that late, she seems to have forgotten that I wasn't the only one and, every time she talks about me, she calls me 5:30. And, it has gotten back to me that she has dubbed me that as there are people I will meet that didn't live here back then and couldn't know it unless she said something about it. Also, she had only gone to bed around 3:30 so, where does she get off. So, now my "5:30" reputation preceeds me. I didn't do anything wrong. That was 7 years ago when I was 28 and could still pull an all nighter like that. So, I get where you are coming from about people judging you about your past. I honestly didn't hurt anyone and I wasn't the only one up that late. But, because she has a bee in her bonnet about me, while she likes the other two people, I was the only one up that late! Oh...and when I said no one got up before noon that day, I know that because I was up at 9 that morning and heard and saw when everyone else got up to get their tables, grills and whatever else from the street that they left their overnight as they were too drunk and tired from going to bed late. I didn't leave any of my stuff in the street overnight...and yet, I am still the bad apple. WTF? | | | | mbs730 (1889)

| | I don't ridicule or make comments about celebrity women. I look at it as they are just like us only have the good fortune to be a celebrity or talent. Which ever I think it is a shame the light shines more on them when they go out without make up or not as dolled up as we are used to seeing them. They are human just as we are and we need to remember that. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)

| | I agree, sunshinelady! | | Tch! Its not just celeb females and ordinary females that have to deal with this... EVERYONE is put under the microscope by other people (even if its only on a subconscious level). Said scrutiny can stay hidden, but many times it become apparent through physical cues (odd stares, verbal quips, change in demeanor, attitude towards the person). Its completely sad, but many cultures and individuals are visual based and put a lot of value in a person based on their looks only. It cam be seen in the thilth known as the "entertainment" world... it can also be seen in dating, relationships, even casual interactions or chance interactions with other people. I've seen more than enough, especially the venom directed personally at me by thousands. Its seen in their odd glances, their poor reactions to me, heard through their muttering, experienced through their conduct towards me. It doesn't matter I have no glaring physical inadequacies. It doesn't matter I'm usually in business-casual or better. It doesn't matter if I smile and show kindness. It really doesn't. I could be wrong by the way. Maybe this is what society has selected. If anything, I'm having fun seeing some of the reprecussions of such foolishness and imprudence (though that's been discussed before... and might come up for another time...) As for celebrities, I have plenty of disagreements. Physical apperance is towards the bottom of the list. I would rather address conduct, choices, and irresponsible acts. | | | | | | | cortjo73 (2353)
|
| | I agree! I tend to sort of judge them on their conduct, choices and irresponsible acts. I know I shouldn't but, when someone wanders around without her panties on and flashes the public repeatedly, that is something I can't prevent myself from judging. Perhaps if that person only did it once, that might just be a fluke. Get over it and move on. But, when she doesn't learn her lesson the first time and makes that mistake repeatedly, yup...you are asking to be judged! But, I can't pick on a celebrity for not looking his or her best every time they step out of their home because, I don't look great every time I step out of my home...so, who am I to judge then? | | | | | | | Beauty School 101 Learn Hair, Make-up and Skin Care Cosmetology - Creative and Fun!
