Yes it can relieve pain because it can help to loose the tighten muscles.
I already apply it during my labor. My labor was easy. Everytime i feel the pain i do yoga and it really help me to ease it and lose the pain for a while. Even though i was already giving birth with my first child.
My mom didn't notice that it will only took me few hours and my baby will be here because she taught it was not a hard pain like what she labor.
They say you need to walk every morning for an easy labor and a lot of things to avoid. I did not do anything like walking but still it was easy.

It depends where the pain is and how it was caused. If it is due to stiffness then yes it will relieve the pain. If it is due to damage, it may still help but see a doctor and ask a yoga teacher before proceeding.

i think that it can but.. if your only starting and your body isn't that flexible yet.. you might feel pain when you start doing yoga, but just for a few days after your flexible.. ^_^
when your doing yoga, and your already flexible, that's the time when you feel relaxed from what your doing cause it's like exercising and you need to stay calm and stay still, also like relaxing but better cause it helps your body maintain our flexibility and it is good for the body.. ^_^
haha, its only an opinion.. ^_^
