It will cost every person at least $30,000.00 each to pay the national debt....

Every man, woman, and child would have to pay that amount...
Now that just sounds like something I want to hear...NOT
If we don't get things worked out our debt will be passed on to our children and their children...and so on...
Eight years ago it wasn't like this...We weren't in the black but we had less than a third of what the debt is now...
What are your thoughts?

That is awful. I think the economy will steadily go downhill because they never get the right person in there to do anything about it lately. They are too busy filling up their own wallets first. Unlce Sam wants every nickel we have and we get the blame for the debt the country is in. I really do not see how we are spending the countries money that we are giving them every year by paying huge taxes.

I don't really understand it all either. The country is in a really big mess and I do not see us getting out of it no time soon. the cost of living is outragious as it is and none of us can afford to pay any more than what we are paying right now. It is very expensive and putting alot of people on the poverty level.

Eight years ago I was building on my little "nest egg" and looking forward to a peaceful retirement. Now that my daughter has stolen 70% of that and the government is making it harder harder to live on Social Security I foresee for me personally a rather bleak monetary future. America is in deep trouble and I think the "American Dream" as we knew it is gone for our children and grandchildren.

we been in debt since the 40s and the Government owe the SS program lots of money they borrowed and never repaid. I think they owe us not the other way around and if they would get other countries to pay up the ones that didnt fight and was to help with the money part we wouldnt have to pay either . also I think all the bank accounts that were froozen of the terroist should be taken and put in the war chest.
With all the millions accets that have been froozen would pay it off big time!

I posted a discussion about 2-3 weeks ago where this preacher, (if you got past the preachy part, I believe he knew what he was talking about), and it doesn't look good, like I don't believe we really will get out of debt..

Thank you President Bush. What a way to go out of office... with a BANG! He's the reason our economy is so down rodden. I can't wait for him to be out of office! The sooner the better!

Neither can I. Now I am afraid that if McCain replaces him we will not be much better of as he has admitted not to understanding too much about the economy and is all for continuing the massive spending on the war with Iraq. (A 100 years??!!??)

Sad part is this is just the tip of the iceberg Feona.
$30,000 per person to pay the national debt (about $120,000 for a household estimated).
It'll take even more than that to pay the debt/downfall of two enormous government programs. This'll be to the toon of $400,000 per household...

Things just look worse and worse as we continue. The banks are already in dire straits and not just stateside but in other parts of the world (England, Germany). A few analysts (and I agree with them) have the thought that much worse has already happened and the banks & governments are working to shield that knowledge or hide it as best they can. In other words, the worst is already here and soon enough they'll not be able to hide it.
Combine that with the debt issue and the economy is in critical status for us and for future generations. I can't predict how it'll all end, but I'll not be surprised at how trying things could become.

What you , and everyone who responded to this discussion thus far has forgotten, is that Congress is who sets the Budget and appropriates the funding for that budget.
The president either approves and signs or vetoes that budget.
That is why there is so much controversy over earmarks and pork projects and the like.
Now then, given the things that the democrat led Congress is wanting to do such as raise taxes by $3.5 trillion, and spend another $2.9 trillion minimum to fight CO2 and the man made global warming hoax... not to mention the increased taxes that we will be saddled with if the L.O.S.T. treaty is approved and the taxes that we will have if the Global anti-Poverty Bill that Obama is sponsoring takes effect...
Not only is our National Dept going to increase even more.... but our economy will completely tank making our present economy look like a walk in the park.
If you think things are bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Is world war III looming around? just passed my thoughts. With a lot of debts, economic instability, oil price hike and political squabbles on top of a huge nuclear arsenal I hate to imagine, what a powerful country woul do to solve it's economic problems? just a thought.
