as the economy slides and spending slows, retailers across the country — are finding that they must take aggressive steps, and sometimes change strategies, to get shoppers into the store and willing to spend.Examples of the tough shopping climate are everywhere retaliers large and small, all sizes are cutting back operations, laying off staff and slashing prices. On Thursday, Borders Group Inc., the nation's second-largest bookseller, said it might put itself up for sale. The chain has lined up $42.5 million in fresh financing to help it continue operations. Times are tough! How do you shop now as opposed to a few years ago?

We are spending a lot less than what we did in the past. With the gas prices the way they are, it seems that we just don't have the money for anything extra. If the price of food continues to increase, we are going to have to change our eating habits. Retailers need to really pay attention to the customer service that they provide because that is where people will go.

I never did shop a whole lot but my shopping habits have definitely changed. We just do not have the money to spend anymore for anything. We are trying to pay things off before it gets worse for us. My husband also lost a good paying job and makes alot less now, so it is very hard for us.

Well shopping for us is put to a limit..We shop only for important stuff. The economy is having a slow progress and lots of businesses are closing down or having mass layoff. As early as now we have to keep in on the situation and try to save more for the future.

I don't shop as much as I have in the past and I do know that retail business is declining. It seems as though most retailers are seeing more declining sales and it is because of the economy. I know that President Bush has signed for this stimulus package hoping that it will boost the economy and I hope so too. It seems as though people aren't spending any money that isn't necessary due to the price of taxes and gasoline.

As of yet, I haven't felt too tight of a pinch. But, to be honest, the situation is different if you own your own house (rent doesn't go up suddenly) and don't have a ARM-loan. Things are still pretty even, even if gas does make me less likely to drive about the place willy nilly.

I spend a lot less than I used to. Money is tight so food, gas, bills and what the baby needs come first. Things would be a lot better if someone would stop letting the gas/oil companies rip us off. Every quarter they are reporting record sales and the CEOs are raking in millions of dollars just for themselves. It sucks to have to shop so little. Hope the economic stimilous package works!
