No, if you murder someone over here in the UK, then you can sometimes only get 7 years in jail, but you get 10 years for armed robbery! Wheres the justice! there isnt any. And the benifit system is up the wall, you can claim benifits for anything, people could work in call centers, the tills in supermarkets, or anything, and they all claim benefits, and no one ever checks up to make sure they arnt breaking the law. Chris :)

Murder has the lowest recidivism rate of any crime (at least in the United States) so quite frankly if they let murders out erly they are not likely to reoffend.

I don't think the legal system is just or fair here in the United States at all. You can do all of the crimes you want these days and you do not have to do the full time for them. the knock years off of the crimes you have done here. I think whatever is good for the goose, should be good for the gander also. Most people do not have to serve any time for the crimes they commit here and they keep repeating the crimes and usually nothing is done about it. It seems alot of people here do crimes just to go to jail and get free housing and 3 warm meals each day.

The system is alright, apart from some minor flaws, but people in charge of the system are just hopeless. The whole nation virtually is corrupt. Corruption is the biggest social evil prevailing in India. There is anti-corruption squad working quite efficiently called Lokayukta, to curb bribery, but the situation is apparently impervious to recovery. If 10 corrupt officials are suspended today, hundreds of such are born tomorrow, so pathetic is the condition. They are all blood suckers who loot the poor and disabled. On one hand, the rich luxurious class is getting more wealthier than ever, whereas on the other, the poor people crumble into further social condemnation and poverty. It is in fact a shame that a country such as India, to which 4 out of the top 10 richest people of the world belong, is still in its developing stages. I just hope a revolution takes place in India. Thanks for providing an outlet to vent off my frustration.

I'm not sure I would say our legal syz\stem is fair or not. I think it partly depend on the color of your skin the size of your bank account and your political connetions, not to mention the the dirrection of the political winds in the country at any given time. (This is, of course, the United States I am speaking of).

I think that it strives to be but is often not. I also believe that people with financial means are more likely than not to get away with a slap on the wrist or no punishment at all. This to me seems highly suspect. I suppose the American in me wants to believe that our system of justice is fair, however, I don't know that any system anywhere could be completely fair and unbiased. I do think that DNA analysis has helped. I think that in the past alot of minority people were accused and prosecuted for crimes they did not commit for purely bureaucratic reasons. Thanks for an interesting discussion. Have a great week.
