Large or small breeds... |
| |
| Hello.:) I am wondering if you prefer a large breed dog or a small breed...and, if you can explain it, why. (I say it that way because I am not sure I can explain my preference for large breeds...lol) I like small breeds ok and some are downright adorable, but for the most part, I feel the bigger the dog the better! My family wants to get another dog but both hubby and daughter say not another big dog- they both want a smaller one. (They both just laughed at me when I mentioned the St Bernard at the shelter...*sigh*) So, which do you prefer...? | | St Bernard | | | | |

| | I have always had small breeds in the past, usually Maltese. I love the affection and let them stay in the house most of the time. Hubby wamted a Golden Retriever so I bought him one for Christmas of 2006. He was just the cutest little butterball then at 7 weeks old. Now he is 1 1/2 and weighs about 85 pounds! He is basically still a pup so is clumsy and goofy ball of energy. When he runs to me from the back yard it's like watching an approaching freight train at full speed. He doesn't mean to be rough but he can knock you down to love up to you. Small dogs are so much easier for me to play with and live with. Big dogs are beautiful, but I really like smaller ones. | | | | | | |

| | I like the smaller breeds. They are easier to train & chew a lot less LOL. Besides they are just so darn cute & adorable. Not to say that big dogs are not as well, it's just that I perfer the smaller dogs. I have 2 small dogs one is a Terrier mix & the other one is a Poodle mix they are so adorable & they are my babies. I spoil them rotton LOL. | | | | | | |

| | Some of the big dogs sure do seem like big brutes, don't they? Ones that aren't well trained make me nervous, too. Thanks for responding | | | |

| | I would love to have a dog but my husband does not want any pet at home. If you are getting another dog then its perfectly fine if you make sure to introduce them correctly and you will be fine as long as they know you are the pack leader then they should be fine but if one is being more dinant over the other make sure you correct the one who is causing the problem. Good Luck! | | | | | | |

| | I have a small breed and a large breed. I see no differents the large breed thinks she is as small as the small breed. My small breed dog likes to act like a cat and the large breed will follow the lead of the small breed. I love them both and I never have a bad day. They keep me laughing. They like to play with eachother. My small breed dog is 10 years old, and my large breed dog is 5 years old. | | | |

| | It's good that they play with eachother and are comfortable. My cousin says that generally dogs which are strong in built try to bully other one. | | | |

| | i like the big dogs. i am not real sure why i just don't like the little dogs. i can't tell you why i like the big but i can tell you why i wouldn't want a small dog. they are cute thats for sure but i don't think they are as friendly and i think they have more of a mean streke in them. i know not all of them are but all but one that i have been around have been and the big dogs seem to be more friendly and not as testy. | | | | | | |

| | That is sort of how I feel, though I have met many friendly small dogs. Still, they make me nervous. Thanks for responding | | | |

| | i prefer big dogs. i don't want to worry about breaking a little dog's bones if we're playing. I have a pembroke welsh corgi and a rottweiler lab cross and i can definately say i am alot rougher with my mix than my corgi. | | | | | | |

| | I absolutly LOVE St. Bernards! They are my favorite breed of dog! I guess that sort of answers your question as to which size I prefer. The bigger the better! I love big goofy dogs. I have a Pit Bull, and she's not really that big, weighing in at 45lbs. but she is big enough for her wildness. I personally would really LOVE to have a St. Bernard, or even a Newfoundland, because they are really mellow, loveable dogs that are good with children. I don't personally have any children yet, but I plan to have a few in my future. I like small dogs too, but not very many of them. I think they are too snippy, and some are way to yappy. My sister has a puggle, and his name is Meeko. He's the cutest little thing, but he barks so much, and tends to nip constantly. Don't get me wrong, I love him, he's just really annoying. | | | | | | |

| | ROFL- snippy and yippy! :) I could have had a Newf for free- a lady had gotten herself into more than she could handle. Hubby said no. :( I know some small breeds can be very friendly and calm. I need to figure out which ones they are. | | | |

| | That is understandable. How sad for a child (or an adult!) I had a friend who loved german shepherds and wanted one when she had her own place (her parents house was way too small) and her little dog was attacked by a shepherd she knew well. (not really hurt, thankfully). She struggled with that for a while...she still wanted a shepherd but when she got her own place and got married, they had a small house, too, and decided it was better to stick with the small breeds. (mini dachshunds). | | | |
